Trigeminal neuralgia, or Tic Douloureux, is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. Trigeminal neuralgia is considered by many to be among the most painful of conditions.

Bilateral TN

Has anyone experienced this or know anything about this happening?

For the past 2-3 weeks I've been having the same type of pain on the left side of my face as the right. Anyone that's had TN pain knows that pain....and its defiantly not pain you confuse with other pain.

Oh my goodness you poor thing. I have not experienced this but one side is bad enough. I can't imagine on both sides. Take care and I wish this wasn't happening to you. I'm so sorry.

I have the pain on both sides and the occipital area as well. It is no fun. As of right now I am still in bed today and it is now 1:29pm (CT) because I had excruciating pain yesterday from this and now today it is still there but I am afraid to move around a lot today. How do I deal with this? Heat or a cool rag on my head. I also use a Alpha Stim-100 Micro current Unit on me every other day for 60 minutes clipped onto my ears. This is suppose to help prevent headaches, migraines or etc. It has helped some. As for meds...well that is another story. I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities to medications, so just think I am on nothing to help with my pains. No joke and believe me I suffer. Surgery nope never went that route, to scared and not only that people get it done and then down the road it has come back. I am on a tight income and so that is not a option for me right now. Yes it can happen on both sides and it hurts. I feel for you because I am the same way also.

I think 1-2% of TN cases are bilateral. Many people who have compression on the one side also have it on the other. However, many do not become symptomatic on both.

I also have bilateral TN. It is very frustrating and painful. Usually one side will hurt more than the other on any given day.

I have had more then one nerve affected but they were on the same side of my face, almost like your face was bisected. Lately it has gotten into my scalp as well as cheeks, upper lip and right nostril, strange for it to hurt to brush your hair.

No I haven't but when I had my MVD, my boys told me there was a man in there that had what I had on both sides. They saw that he had bandages on both sides. I hope you find relief in some way. I have been starting to feel different things on my other side but keep telling myself that I am paranoid. Which I probably am.

I have bilateral TN too. I had a glycerol rhizotomy on the left side 30 years ago and have been pain free up until about a month ago. I have had it on the right side since 2005. It comes and goes. Right now, it is in remission. The left sided pain is manageable. But you know the pain! Take care.
