I have TN and it is like electirc shock. TN can travel. First time for me was right hand side of my face. Then 3 years nothing. Came back but this time in my teeth and nose. Could not eat ,talk or blow my nose. They say TN is one of those condtions that came and go. It drives you make. You must go on to YouTube, type in trigeminal neuralgia and there are some good vidio of people telling you about TN. What you can do and how they feel. Also of diffirent operation that people have done and its work for them Try it out. And good Luck.

I know with mine I can have both. I get the electric/stabbing pain in my right side. I've been on medication and we're trying to find my happy spot with it so as it wears off I'll get the shocks and everything and sometimes I can just have this horrendous stabbing pain across my eye and my face that last for hours. But the meds are working, I just need to find my good dose for now. Good luck!

The electric shock like pains in my tongue have increased and I have to be so careful not to chew on the left side. After talking a bit I also get the pain. I'm always afraid now that I will get the full blown attacks involving the face and ear but so far so good.
I have a call in to the neurologist. I hate the thought of having to increase the dosage of meds but from what I have read mine is relatively low at 400 mg a day.
Since the neurologist said it's rare for the pain to be in the tongue I now worry if there is something else going on.

Princess040, would be most grateful if you would tell me what meds you are on. Is that possible? I have tried "everything" - except surgery and nothing really helps in the long term. Sometimes am totally desperate.

Hi, I hate talking about the TN but I find it does help me when I read what other people are going through. I have been through the whole range. Electric shocks, the nose, the jaw, the head and now the ear and the face. It is exacerbated by the cold weather and it is winter here now so I am house bound. Sitting at PC with heater, track suit and hood over my head. I sometimes have to wear a beanie to fight off the cold in our house. Looks pretty ridiculous but my family understand.

My constant pain is worse than the shocks and the shocks are heinous. That being said, I want to kill myself from the constant pain. I know I have a LOT going on with my face and after 18 years of TN it just gets worse. I also have nerve damage in my face. If you look at my Photos section I have pictures of my pain and oddly enough it moves over time (from month to month or so). Luckily I am in the hands of some good doctors so that I can attempt to live a normal life. We are also trying a new strategy with medicines so I hope the pain subsides to some degree because right now it is crazy ;o{

ingelo, I'm currently on 400 mg of carbatrol twice daily, 30 mg cymbalta twice daily and take B12 injections (first once weekly for a month, now 1 time per month). I have started to have some issues again and he put me on Lyrica also, I hate it!! I go to see him tomorrow and hopefully I can get off it. I'm not at the point were I'm in constant pain or even daily, but it still comes up. Hope any of this helps you.
