So i've been making some progress and this is how i've been doing it:
Everytime that I have the urge to pull and my hand is up there playing with my hair, I grab the bottle of extra virgin olive oil and pour the biggest amount i can fit into my hand and message it into my scalp. I do it while i'm on the computer or watching tv cause thats when i have the biggest urges. Since I live by myself, no ones here to see my half bald head. It promotes hair growth and just by having my hands all oily and my hair all oily makes it that much harder to grab onto a hair and pull it out. Ive been doing this for just over a week and i've noticed that my hair is not only growing, but its also softer. So instead of pulling my hair, Im messaging it, which honestly, i've found is just as soothing at times. And since is close to bedtime that my urges are the strongest, I don't have to go out with oily hair. And if I do put the oil into my hair and then decide to go out, I just braid the hair i have and put on a bandana and no one notices how oily it is .
Then wash the oil out in the morning and repeat at night. Its been honestly helping a great deal. Instead of spending hours at a time pulling, im messaging!!!

I have also tried super hold styling gel, hair masques, and slimy pomade and it worked for me. Maybe that can work for you too. :)
