I'm so fed up with this. Everytime I look in the mirror I hate what i see. What Ive done to myself. The whole top half of my head plus the half my left side is completely gone. And the skin is all red and irritated. Everytime i'm fussing around with my hair trying to cover all the spots, i just wanna rip it all out and shave my head and be done with it. I almost didn't walk the stage at my graduation because how would i wear the cap without wearing something on my head, to cover, when i take off the cap everyone would see, well u know what i did, i placed it on top of my bandana, i looked just weird, lol. But i didnt wanna miss out on it. Its at its worst point. Its never been this bad. I have like barely any eyebrows but it doesnt bother me as much cause i can just pencil them in. I dont want to do this anymore. Honestly, can someone please tell me what theve done to stop. I dont want to shave my head, but ive already done the pros and cons list with my therapist. I just dont know what to do anymore, i hate this so freakin much Its been 8 long and painful years. The only time i ahve been pull free is when im surrounded full of people for a very long time, But im always alone now, so ugghhhhhh!!!!!!! THIS JUST FLAT OUT SUCKS. I WISH THEIR WAS A CURE TO CURE EVERYBODY FROM THIS FOREVER. I want to start a fundraiser to raise money to find a cure, and raise awarness of this cause barely anyone even know what this is.. its so frusterating!!!

I almost didn't go to my college graduation because I was missing almost all my eyebrows and I had taken a needle to my face (I also suffer from compulsive skin picking). I was so humiliated. I think it was one of the most difficult experiences in my life. I was so anxious that I almost left during the ceremony. I'm so sorry that you're having a rough time right now. I have had trich for about 8 years now but I didn't realize that it was an actual disorder so I just tried to hide it from others. I have mostly pulled from my eyebrows and some from my eyelashes. I only have a few brow hairs left at this point and I really don't think they want to come back this time! I started pulling the hair on my head as well during the past year but I don't have any spots that are completely missing. Some are a little bald and it has gotten pretty thin throughout. I would encourage you to go for the head shaving. I have heard that it works really well for some people and I would say it is worth a shot. It's up to you, but I say...why not? If it could help, then it will be worth it in the end. I wish that there was a cure too or at least more awareness. I had never even heard of this disorder and I was a nursing major in college! It is very frustrating. I feel your pain. Keep your chin up and remember that you will get through this!

Thanks for your reply and encouragment. Especially now, that its summer. I havent gone swimming in like 6 years. I really want to go swimming. I mean now that i'm out of school, I dont have to worry about as many people asking me why i shaved my head. If thats what i decide to do.

You're welcome! I understand that. I don't swim either because I don't like taking the chance on having my eyebrows wash off. It sucks! Keep me posted on what you decide to do. :)

I am a gymnast and it is super hard to keep a head and on during lattice because I’m always moving and flipping and I’m just afraid it will fly off one day and everyone will see my hair and I have been trying to come up with some new hair styles but it’s jusg not working

i haven’t stopped, and i haven’t had it as long as you, but things that i’ve found helpful for me is distracting myself and making sure my hands are doing something so i can’t pull out my hair. i also don’t do it in front of my friends so i really like to surround myself with friends a lot. i also use squishy toys, fidget toys like rings or spinners, and wearing gloves to help make it hard to pull. i don’t know how you feel about this one, but fake nails also make it hard for me. when i try to pull it hurts my nails and fingers so it’s harder to do it. i also use a hair spray that is the color of my hair so i can spray into my hair to help cover up my spots. you can find those at makeup places and stores and a lot of places. you can find a lot of these things anywhere, like amazon or the store or just around the house. i don’t know if this helped you, but i really hope i helped. feel free to talk to me anytime.
