Try wearing socks on your hands or always apply lotion. And always try your best to remind yourself that your " hands must not be on your head"...gather strength and meditate for few mins per day. I hope this will help you! I tried to hide it from my parents for a long time, but then later it became too visible to hide. I hope you are more strong than me! ♥

Hello sophie so I've been going through this from the age of 12 now i'm 22 and a few years ago I got the courage to tell my family about my disorder, even though it was evident. My advice it helps when you open up to the people closest to you, keeping this to yourself will only make it worse.

Sophie- I have had trich since I was 12 and I’m now 27. I too was/am embarrassed and too afraid to get help for this, even at this age. My mother knew what I was doing when I was 12 but she thought it was a choice and it’s not. This created a lot of tension and eventually she talked to my doctor and realized it wasn’t my fault. I tried to hide it to no avail for a long time, people know that something is up, but they’re either too polite to ask or curious enough to stare/ask or make you feel uncomfortable. I still never went to see a therapist or doctor for it. My encouragement to you would be this...start with telling one family member you trust, someone you know will love you regardless... then seek professional assistance as therapy and medication has proven for some people to help. But don’t wait until you’re 27 like me and worry about having to explain to someone why you haven’t gotten help in 15 years. ❤️ Good luck :)

Hi I have had Trich for only a few months but I have pulled a lot and it’s noticable so I had to tell my parents but I was scared so I let my mom find it on her own while she was brushing my hair and she saw it and immediately asked my questions and googled it and told me I had trich but we did not know how to solve it it luckily we caught it early and now I have extensions and see a therapist. I have found wearing my hair in a bun helps to not pull it because it is hard to get it out of the bun and I have found that there are lots of toys to keep you’re hands occupied like a tangle or a fidgit cube or spinner. I also take hair vitamins which helps my hair grow faster and thicker. Feel free to ask me anything but I’m so happy I found this group so I don’t feel depressed over having it because I thought I was alone in this journey but my parents have been really supportive and we have a sticker chart and after a certain amount of days I get a prize or treat like icecream or a piece of clothing and I find that helps a lot too :) I’m only 13
