Hello all,
I have been pulling my eyelashes and eyebrows for over 30 years. After excepting that there is no cure and trich will be a condition that will never go away similar to diabetes I have come across something very interesting.
When i joined this signt a couple of years ago I read blogs about how NAC was helpful. Similar to many i ran out and grabbed me a bottle. I would take 3 pills a day and it did help. I did go through a spurt of minimum growth. However, of course I would only take the pills occasionally and therefore would continue to pull my eye lashes out.
Of course having trich, the my doctor perscribed prozac for the anxiety which is a condition side by side trich. After deciding to go back to school and receive my master's in psychology I completed a biopsychology course which I learned in detail about how chemically my brain works and how the synapses send chemical instructions to the brain. Needless to say with additional research I found how HTP-5 was an amino acid which helps with seritonin production in the brain.
The HTP-5 was a supplement which made an impressive impact on my anxiety, yet did not help the trich. With the year 2012 and wanting to take back control of my life I decided to get the lap-band procedures. After having the lap-band I was given a restrictive diet was recommended to take protein supplements to support my dietary needs.
Well,,, after visiting the local health store I started taking a protein supplement called INTEK ISOLATE evolution. The supplement supplied me with all of the essential amino acids. After about 2 weeks of taking 60 grams of the Isolate, 100 mg of HTP-5, and my prozac daily, I have been able to grow my eyelashes back.
Now I do still have the urge to pull, however I am able to self talk myself out if it. Do I still pull, yes I do, however the requency is limited and I am able to pull less. I was also able to learn how caffine was a trigger for me and I am reducing my caffine content.
i encourage everyone to look at an amino acid supplement and would love to hear if it is helping you!!!
Good luck!

I have started back on amino acids after not taking them for a few years. I am pleasantly surprised at my hair growth increase! Very noticeable.

I was taking amino acids but recently ran out - helps the hair grow, didn't knolw it helps curb urges. I also take inositol, which helps curb urges. Recently I broke my pull free days after being pull free for a week - I had run out the amino acids and had forgotten a couple of doses of inositol. But also, I was eating bad and not getting enough sleep - triggers for me. Thanks for the info - will pick up more amino acids today.

I tried 5 HTP for help with getting to sleep but did not notice any huge difference to my sleep. Can't remember if I was pulling lots at that time. Maybe I should take that again too. What are lap bands ?

Lapband is a surgery to help loose weight. Good luck with the amino acid supplements
