As you know we need the help of a gender therapist in order for the doctors to prescribe hrt and do i wad wondering of any of y'all had a resource for finding such a therapist

In short I'm looking for a gender therapist, and need help finding one in my area

Even though I am seeing a gender therapist and have been for well over a year now, I was recently told of at least a place in Chicago that doesn't require a gender therapist. Since being transgender is no longer classified as a "mental disorder" all you have to do is go there at least twice. Once to speak with a doctor and get assessed, the second time to actually begin the process of starting hormones. I don't know if that's actually the case, just what I was told. But I'm old fashioned, and prefer to go the route of a gender therapist.

Kyler,

Pay a visit to your nearest gay community center and ask them where there is a transgender support group and when they meet. Go to one of their meetings: Being FTM or MTF. Go to the one that applies to you and then ask if they could recommend for you.

I'm seeing a clinical social worker and she is helping me find a doctor. I found out the if you can go to the VA they do the HRT, so that's the way I'm trying to go. I'm also on SSI and they do the SRS. Any way we have no gender therapist in my town, so I had to go the way I did. I think at the end of the year the rules change.
