So, I just had a speech class tonight, and in one of the chapters it was discussing the various demographics that a speaker might address.

Now first off, what ticked me off is the teacher asked a student what gender means. The student replied "Guy or girl" and then another girl in the class said "Well not anymore, can't always tell" something like that. That irked me, since a couple of the students were laughing at that. But no big deal. Then we get to Sexuality. The teacher says he doesn't want to talk about sexuality and that his belief is that people should be allowed to do what they want, but to keep the kids out of it. This really pissed me off, and I wanted to say something, but didn't.

So the question I'm asking is, should kids learn about LGBT at an early age? I know my cousin's daughter has already learned about it, and she's 4. And she is already completely accepting of other lifestyles. At 4!!! Now my teacher is in in late 70's so I guess I understand it, but I don't think he understands the world is changing. And I feel that if we don't teach kids something about LGBT then they won't know anything about it, and we as people tend to fear the unknown. I just felt it was an incredibly rude thing to say. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Should children/kids be taught about LGBT? The answer to this question is yes, but taught at an appreciate age that their minds can understand what is being said to them. It is also important that the person who is teaching the kids, knows what they are talking about, when it comes to LGBTQ discussions.

my persoanal take is that it is up to the parents, just as sex ed and a few other classes require a parental concent form i think this would fall in that area. my reason for this is that just as we have the right to live as we wish so to do others. if a parent does not wish to have thier child taught about that for whatever reason that is thier choice. sure the ignorance about it in the world pisses me off to no end, but its thier right.

My goddaughter is 4, and we've never really talked to her about it. Same with my 8 nieces and nephews. It just is what it is. They've seen me with gfs, hell, some have slept i the same bed as me and gfs when we've babysat them and they crawled in bed with us. It's just always been a part of their lives. If they have questions, they ask. We also took the 4 year old to Pride for the first time this year. It's very family friendly and she had a blast!

I believe kids should be taught at an appropriate age where they can actually know what's being taught to them. But I believe religion shouldn't be an influence of the teachings because all it does is condemn the lgbt community.

Well I am glad everyone is in the same boat :) Maybe it's not so much they should learn about it, but they shouldn't be taught to reject it. And you're right Recon about religion. Actually I've been telling some people that I was surprised like the diehard Catholics heads didn't explode when the Pope said that like they shouldn't fear or condemn the LGBT community. Luckily, my family it's too religious, and I tend to believe that religion is weakening more and more.

The teacher I have just pissed me off when he said that though so that's why I thought to bring it up. I really should have stood up and walked out at that point, but didn't want to make a scene since I'm not out.

I understand your frustration. I am not out at my school about being bi or trans. They think I am a GG and that's the way it's staying considering it's a Christian school. I don't want religion being crammed on me on the lgbt aspect, it's bad enough I have to take bible class and have chapel on Fridays. Hell the guest speaker last Friday was telling us if we don't repent and get saved we are going to hell, so hence why I choose not to have anyone find out.

Might I add, I closed my facebook account by the name they know me as and kept my other facebook, also closed my youtube and twitter and blogspot just so they don't see anything about being bi or trans and created a new youtube and twitter accounts. I now have a fresh start on both of those and if they do find either or then they won't see anything about either.

My school isn't too heavy on religion, and even if it was thankfully 5 of my 6 classes are online anyways lol. But I've just got until May until I graduate, and then it's the free world for me :) I haven't closed down any of my accounts. But I have created new ones too so I can better express myself. But I totally understand where you're coming from, and once I'm done with school I'll probably delete a couple of my old accounts too.
