Is this legal?

I have a transgender Step daughter. Male to Female. She is 19 and has been in therapy and on hormones since the age of 16. She is getting a name change and also has a surgeon who wrote a letter saying she has had a surgery as part of her transition to female. The surgery however was a nose job, she honestly didn't need. She is able now to get her gender changed although she has not had any other surgery. I am very happy for her, as she wants to get her license and a job and go away to college after her legal name change and legal gender change. My question and concern is, Is this legal and a normal practice? I was always under the impression the gender change could not be made legally unless the surgery had something to do with the gender reassignment. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for any help and for reading this.

To be honest im unsure of US but i know in england you dont need any surgery to have your doctor confirm you as the gender you perceive yourself, however you do have to have atleast 2 years of therapy under your belt from that doctor, however US will most likely be different to British law.

Thank you so much. She has been in therapy for over two years so maybe that is the case. She is just so happy she is finally able to do this I don't want anything to happen to let her down. Thank you again for your response.

it may not be legal but if she can get away with it i say YOU GO GIRLit is her happines that is import as far as i feel

GRS in not necessary for US Gender change.In my opinion,GSR for MtF is not that safe or necessary.I believe that it is more appropriate to ADD a vagina.Also,with HRT,and in particular an uncircumcised penis,the 'pass ability'is acceptable.Keep in mind,Hermaphrodites have both genitals.I think the day will come when fully functional male and female sex systems will be available for implant.
