Transgender Support Group
This community is here to support and help the large population of transgender people. If you or anyone you know identify as transgender, this is the place to share your feelings and experiences and speak with others who are going through similar things in their lives.
I have been away for a while but I want to be more active again. I identify as a cis-female but my partner is FtM and I have found this group really helpful in learning more and finding support
I am genderqueer too, but only completely out to my partner, although I have talked a bit about it to my mom and her partner. I haven't been active lately, but I intend to change that. I feel I need to be able to share more with people facing similar experieces, and I hope we can give each other some support :)
Welcome to the group. One way to help yourself with the dysphoria is to start being comfortable in your own skin right now and not later. The reason for this is if you wait until the conditions are just right, you will be waiting for a long time. I speak from experience, so you might as well start now.
This will not only help you as you transition but also it will stop the discomfort altogether, thus making it better instead of making it worse as you go through the process.
My therapist suggest I do what I just told you to do, it was not easy so she also pointed out rightfully so that circumstances should never dictate how I feel about myself or whatever is happening or not happening because then I would not be disappointed but instead looking forward to getting to know myself better and enjoying life as it unfolds.
If I had waited until I felt comfortable, I would have literally wasted years I could have enjoyed. So I taught myself to love and appreciate my situation, my body and my life. Let us look it differently, how many get the opportunity to experience both genders with its idiotic rules and learn what works and what does not work? Not many.
Hope this helps,
Wolf (FTM since 1987)
Wolfiepa - Interestingly, I'm pretty comfortable in my own skin. I even got that feedback from an instructor recently. My dysphoria comes and goes, and often is more of an annoyance than anything. I appreciate the advice, though. I can say that as I am transitioning I'm mostly enjoying the process of getting to know myself a bit better.
