Find a councilor at your college that is part of the LGB community I'm pretty sure all colleges have them. They should be able to direct you on how to approach your family. I must say to prepare yourself for rejection. Because it will be a shock to them but it will take time for them to adjust even through the phases of your starting transitioning. I know your feelings almost 14 years I have been trying to transition. Until last year I managed to start. I'm still married but I must say I get physically and verbally abuse , not only by her but my children as well.
I have been told by others that you do what makes you happy its your life. Now I love my kids don't get me wrong but I want to be happy. I have had my wife tell me that I'm being selfish and you don't know what your doing. In my situation I have no relationship with my wife for Manny years as she reminds every other month. You will hear a lot of redrick but you have to give them time to adjust. They will say hurt full things to you but deep down they will still love you for who you are.

Look at it thus: what is the WORST thing your parents can do? Kick you out? Yell at you? Make you feel 3 inches tall, just for being yourself? Ok,... Now, ask yourself this: Why would you want to STAY in that situation? That isn't a loving relationship!
You're 18, you can legally move out on your OWN. You don't have to stay under their roof. Hard as it is, find a job, save up the money, and move out. I know the job market isn't the best, pay may be low, but believe me, it'll be better to move out and become your true self.
Don't let fear of their rejection stop you. Find work, save up, move out. Be yourself. If they reject you, it isn't the end of the world - you have an entire life ahead of you. Live it as who you are. You'll find other people, who will accept you and love you for yourself. That's what true family IS - loving, accepting.
Abusive "family" isn't family.
