improvements with age

Hi all,

I know this subject has been discussed before, but I'd love to hear from anyone whose tics have improved with age. My son is now 17 and shows no sign on any improvements. This is really starting to worry me as I'm loosing the hope I once had when he was younger. Is he still too young for improvements.?? Love to hear your comments. If you have improved how bad were your tics during the teenage years and when did you improve. Did you take medications for your tics etc. Thanks in advance.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I'm glad you have had improvements with age. I hope that happens for my son as well. He is currently very distressed with tics. He has a grunting/screeching tic that wears him out. It's constant and get much worse when he is stressed or has been suppressing. He was in tears last night from pain and frustration. Unfortunately he is not a good responder to meds and doesn't want to even talk about trying them. We are desperate to try and help him, but don't really know where to turn. He is not lucky enough to be able to conceal them in public. The tics are interfering so much in his life. Work is difficult and ts makes choices narrower.

@Mgibbs: idk? i can see where he is coming from when i fitst got diagnosed i didnt want to talk about it at all because for a long time it was the BIGGEST thing in my life i practically lived in the hospital. but now i love learning about it, it makes me feel like im not alone! i read just about everything possibble on it lol

Hello, I am new to this group. I have had TS since I was 7 and I am turning 28 soon.

I think the worst of my TS period was between age 15-22. It was getting better after college, however, for some reason, i think it got worse now. I do not have vocal tics anymore, only head tics.

I have stopped taking medication since age 14?, the side effects were really harmful, so my parents decided not to have me taking those.

Last year, I went to this Chinese acupuncture clinic, only for 1 session, it REALLY helped my tics. After the session, the desire of having tic is gone. But I couldn't afford to go back since my insurance didn't cover that.

Anyway, I hope it gets better.
