Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I have recently been diagnosed with tmj, although I know now that I have had symptoms of it for at least 15 years. I have recently had unbearable pain in my jaw and head and neck. While researching tmj treatments, I came across a post about magnesium and how it can help with tmj. I started taking it 5 days ago and I feel like a whole new person!!! My jaw pain level has gone from a 7-8 down to a 2-3 already! I decided to research a little more about magnesium and found out that one of the main functions of magnesium in the body is muscle relaxation. As a woman, I know how important calcium is to the body, so I was taking a calcium supplement daily for the past several months. Come to find out, calcium makes the muscles contract! So, I have come to the conclusion that I had a magnesium deficiency in my body, than adding calcium on top of that= total muscle contraction! There has to be a good balance between magnesium and calcium levels in the body. I urge anyone who has problems with tmj to take a magnesium supplement, I have been taking magnesium citrate, but I heard that magnesium chloride absorbs into the body much better, so I am going to try it. I also suggest if you are taking a calcium supplement, stop taking it for awhile. Atleast until you can get your tmj under control. I am not a health care professional by any means, so make sure you contact your doctor if you have any health issues, especially any kind of kidney disease because I have read that too much magnesium can be harmful to anyone with kidney problems. I just wanted to share this with you guys because it has helped me tremendously. I hope it will be helpful to someone. My heart goes out to everyone struggling with this. I have also been doing buteyko breathing exercises to help relax me and it really helps to relax my jaw and face muscles. My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
