Temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ syndrome, is an acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint, which connects the lower jaw to the skull. The disorder and resultant dysfunction can result in significant pain and impairment.

Serce
my jaw clicks and pops on the right side. Sometimes it feels stuck and I have a hard time opening my mouth properly. There is stiffness in my jaw and it feels swollen and very uncomfortable. Some days it is better, some days it is worse. I am on LTD disability, but have no dental insurance as I am no longer a company employee.
I have a lot of other chronic illnesses and just feel frustrated at having another issue on my plate...don't mean to be a whiny baby about this, just have so many other medical issues I'm already struggling to deal with.
I'm not sure exactly how long this has been going, for a few months now I think...can any other doctors treat this or is a dentist the only and/or best option?
Deep breath, sigh...sorry for all of you who are suffering and struggling with this...whatever this is...don't mean to be obtuse, just don't know if it is TMJ, diagnosing myself is not one of my talents...recognizing pain is.
Thanks for listening...take care!

i have constant fatigue and can barely get out of bed. Taking NP thyroid and Dr recently added Cytomel. Since I started Cytomel my appetite has increased, gained weight and feel so incredibly angry and argumentative. It has not helped with weight loss and energy as the Dr was hoping. My hair has also become very dry and I feel as if I'm experiencing premature aging. I feel and look 80...

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

Get a splint made (its like a nightguard but doesn't just prevent tooth wear, it moves your jaw too), and get a script for muscle relaxers. I've heard soma is the best, though amrix (its flexeril but extended release) is good too. Flexeril does okay as well but you can't take it during the day cause you get super tired.
I've also heard about grindcare in the UK. Its like a tens unit but works when you're sleeping and shocks only when you grind.
Hope that helps. Sorry to hear you're suffering.
