I'm only about 10 days or so on the xannax. I've noticed my right ear which is my quiter ear ringing louder and my left ear, the louder ear ringing quiter. I understand the first few weeks this is expected and the tinnitus may even get louder for the first week or so. Search "Kevin Hogan Tinnitus". He writes about this. I saw a tinnitus specialist yesterday. She did hear of the xannax for tinnitus but she believes it's mostly the brains perception of the ringing that the xannax can help. The biggest problem I'm having on this medicine is tiredness. The good part of the tiredness is that I'm sleeping very well. Thanks for the advice on the MP3 player...God Bless...
I understand your concern and it is very valid. I've had tinnitus for 25+ years and I learned to live with it very well. If you asked me last Christmas what my top five problems in life were, tinnitus would not have been on the list. Now this tinnitus is #1,2,& 3 on the list. I hear it in the grocery store it's gotten so high and loud. Although I am as of now not a member, I have read on the American Tinnitus Assoc. web site that "xanax has reduced tinnitus for some." It's under the treatment section. For someone experiencing severe tinnitus, is it worth trying? Personally, I have experienced no "high" from xanax, only tiredness which the longer I am on this medication the less tired I feel. My doctor has me taking .5 mg in the morning and .5 at night. It's only been about two weeks now that I've been trying this and I've noticed a slight shift in the T from my left ear to my right but no reduction in volume or pitch. Please know, I am not recommending this, I am only asking if anyone has had an experience with this. Someone can have a glass of wine with dinner and be content. Another can have a glass of wine with dinner and wash it down with a half a bottle of vodka. You are very right on putting caution on this subject. Thank you.
I personally can tell you that xanax is a bandage. But a bandage is good when you are hemorrhaging right?
Problem with xanax is that it makes you tired, and you forget things. But if you take say 1 mg of xanax before going to sleep,
chances are you will sleep and wake up refreshed. As you wake
up you may notice the noise getting louder and louder, at this point you might want to take more xanax or just live with the noise.
My suggestion is to live with the noise, but I have a hard time following my own advices since the the xanax lowers the volume
substantially. Xanax by itself is wonderful stuff and it is so easy to
get hooked that you are going to have a hard time convincing a doctor to give you what you need.
"T" is basically caused by nerves misfiring, lots of info on this out there which you can Google. People who have lost limbs still feel the limb is there, they want to reach down and scratch a foot that itches, only problem the foot is not there.
The noise associate with "T" works on the same principle, nerves that are going off and feeding the brain false information. In my case the "T" was caused by some medication I took over 12 years
ago, and it is not likely to go away.
I down my zannie with a shot or two of JD, before I go to
sleep. I also chew the tab .. down the drink and I am off to lala, lala land and ... I sleep thought the night. Booze and zannies are a bad combination really just ask Whitney Houston, but at small doses, well .. I have survived.
Again the problem with all Benzos is that they can become like pop corn .. you know you can't eat just one right? That is why it is
hard to get a script for them and doctors really don't want you on them for any extended period.
Just because I have a full bottle of JD Wiskey does not mean that I will chug it dry or wake up and start drinking. Same applies to xanax. Alcohol by it self tends to amp up the music in my head, if I drink too much .. really if I drink at all.
Xanax works on different receptors and in a different way, taking
it with alcohol makes both more potent .. and if you are not careful you may wind up living in the Vally of the Dolls or sucking up bath water like Whitney Houston.
Take my words for what they are worth, xanax is a band aid to help you through the night ... I highly recommend not taking it during the day. I really do not notice the noise when I am doing something productive, my mind focuses on what I am doing.
Xanax is a crutch witch takes your attention away from the noise, the noise is there but you really don't care as much so you can
lul yourself to sleep.
I would compare 1 mg of xanax to one maybe two stiff drinks.
You do not necessarily want to make decisions after two drinks,
and you may not want to make decisions while on xanax because
your judgement is impaired. You feel good, but really you are impaired.
Xanax helps ... your mind is diverted away from the noise, you will hear the noise but not notice it as much so it seems that the noise is lower, the noise is really the same, but you do not care as much about it ... your anxiety level is lessened by the xanax and when it wares off the noise comes back .. maybe louder than before, hopefully you will be able to get some quality ZZZ's sleep
and function but xanax is a band aide at best, a really bad and dangerous trip if you can't keep it under control ... just some thoughts ..
