I think I've had a little success with gabapentin....not really sure but I do get a few "good" days whereas before I started taking it I never had any low days....not sure if it's a coincidence or not.

I do not get better from any meds, but will have a better day when I can de-stress and have positive thoughts.

Sue- Gabapentin is also a mood stabilizer. Has it helped at all with your mood? How long have you been taking it?? what dosage? The reason I have so many questions is because my doc prescribed it for me when I mentioned some t sufferers had some success with it. I have not taken it yet, I am leery with certain meds.

Xanax lowers my tinnitus for a little while. It's a benzo so it can be habit forming. Something you might discuss with you pcp.

I have had some luck with habituation - the best deal I have seen is "beyond tinnitus.com. I looked into PAX100 - they seem to be simiar but more expensive and I can listen to my music with beyondtinnitus.com.
My tinnitus is quieter and I have even had some times where I hardly notice it after I take my earphones off.
Concentrating on my t and staying angry about it def makes it worse especially at night :(

Xanax when the T gets in the way works for me .
.5 mg twice a day .

Gaba does nothing for my mood. I'm on 300 mg which I don't think is very much.

Have been taking Gabapentin for over a month now. Started out at 900mg per day but have increased that to 1800mg per day. I'm just trying to find a dosage that I think will make my tinnitus more tolerable. I take 900mg before noon and the other 900mg at night.

Also take .5mg of Clonazepam with each dose. I always wake up with very loud tinnitus and my routine for the past 10 years is to listen to music in the morning and that will sometimes lower my tinnitus for the rest of the day.

With the Gabapentin/Clonazepam combo I will admit i'm having more good days. Are the 2 drugs the reason for this? Can't say for sure but i'd like to think so. It's too early to tell yet.

In the Search bar at the top of this page, search "Gabapentin" and "Gabapentin and Klonpoin" and you can find a lot of discussion by people on this site about these two drugs lowering their T.

Also, Nortryptaline and Amatryptaline also are known to lower T. You might do a "search" on these, too. A number of people on this DS site use one or the other.

Dava I always like to recommend these ear plugs. They're cheap and attach to your key chain. They reduce sound but also allow you to hear other people talking. Take them with you everywhere and have them when you need them.

What McMurdo says about Amitriptyline is very true. Have been taking it so long have forgot about it. Have been on Amitriptyline for over 10 years and that is one drug that has helped with my tinnitus. Took it at first to help with my sleep but also noticed it does help with the tinnitus.

That would be the first drug I would try. This is my opinion and mine alone. If your thinking about it please have a talk with your doctor. Not everyone can take it but in my case my doctor thought it was a good idea. All these years later I still take it on a regular basis. Good Luck!

Definately agree Bobsdreams comment. I don't go anywhere without my ear plugs.
This morning had to have a tooth fixed, the drill was wheering in my ear, much more tolerable with earplugs in.
