It's tempting for me, to try it again. The problem I had the last time, is that if you don't fall asleep, you feel terible the next day, because of the Amitriptyline.
1. The sound. This is probably the hardest to deal with since as we all know there is NO CURE, and it will be along time in its coming if ever. So we have to use therapies to help us cope with this disease. You have to find a sound therapy that helps you. Recognize that everyone is different. One device or sound might work for one person and maybe no one else. You have got to find the sound or device that works for you. I personally havent found a device that lowers or inhibits my experience of tinnitus.
2. Anxiety. There are many different treatments for the person that suffers from anxiety.(Everyone please add to this list as you see fit).
2a. Prescription medications.
2b. Homeopathic remedies. This I want to classify as anything not prescription. Herbal remedies, Breathing Exercises, Meditation tapes, etc.
2c. Therapy. Some people(me included) get a lot of relief by talking to someone like a counselor or therapist. Chiropractic helps some people. Massages help too.
In my searches I think the most prevelant relief comes from breathing exercises and meditation.
In my treatment I have found that if I eat a bowl of cereal(just a few bites) will do the trick.
Sleep. I think for sleep the main aspect has to be two categories. Routine and environment(hopefully I chose the correct spelling).
Routine generally means creating a pattern that tells the mind that I am going to sleep now and always sticking to that routine. Fortunate is the person that comes home from work eats dinner, cracks a beer or a glass of wine and passes out.
Environment (In general, environment refers to the surroundings of an object). Try to create an area where distractions are limited. A distraction free zone. And I say this as more sound distractions that anything cause I can lay awake in bed and count the little plastic stars on my ceiling sometimes and fall asleep to that. You have to create a PLACE THATS COMFORTABLE TO YOU.
I think that it would be a great idea if DS would put a stickie to this group of the different things that work for people with these ailments.
I did find a link I have to explore = www.anxiety.com
There are so many different reccomendations for relief.
A desktop noise maker does not work for me. The good thing about the cassette player is once the side is done it will automatically turn itself off. I always will find the headphones and player on the floor in the morning. So for me it works. I always take my Amitriptyline and Clonazapam at least an hour before. Hope this helps. John
only he taking taking 50MG Amit, and ,5 KLONOPIN
I am trying again homopathethic style, witha product called Advanced Sleep Formula, along with some GABA during the day.
My 50mg dosage has not changed in over 10 years. Like I said I also take .5mg of Clonazepam(small dose) and have never had to increase the dosage of that either. It works so why mess with the dosage? I always wake up refreshed after getting 6-8 hours of sleep.
Good luck, I know this is a hard one.
Hugs,
Sandy
I also drink Valerian tea or Yogi bedtime tea before bed. I sleep with an ipod of water noises. I take scullcap, passionflower, and a ton of melatonin (20mg capsules I order online). I also take Mason brand Sleep & Relax which has valerian and other herbals in it (like hops). I then take 1000mg of L-Tryptophan and some 5HTP. Sometimes I will take DMAE or Ashwanganda. And as if that isn't enough, I take the Rx Doxipin which is designed to keep you asleep all night (which is my problem--staying asleep for more than 4 hours). It doesn't really help me on its own (see? I told you I'm really broken!), but I take it anyway.
I thought I might be killing myself with all this stuff at once each night, but when I ran it by two docs, neither one had a problem with it. 0_o
It has just about the same mg strengh that your taking on the 5HTP,
plus all the the extra little goodies.
Good for you.
I guess everyone needs to find their formula.
I hope you will find a way too, as it can make for a hard next day.
Hugs to you all,
Sandy
