Interesting , the article says "Patients who completed the study said they had improvements in their symptoms during the course of treatment" but it doesnt say what kind of improvements. It seems the "improvements" only last a few weeks max. This certainly doesnt seem to be any kind of cure but it might bring some relief to some people.

Maybe i misread it but it pretty much sounds like the treatment you have tried before.

The Ultraquiet equipment includes a music player and amplifier and a headpiece. The headpiece has an aluminum ceramic transducer, a tiny disc that is held against the mastoid bone behind the patient's ear.

"The disc turns the music sound from the amplifier into vibrations which are sent through the skin and into the bone of the skull. The vibrations stimulate the nerve cells, which respond as if they were hearing high-pitched sounds coming from the ear itself."


This is where I think it's different from the Inhibitor. No sound other than sound from the "tuning fork" was used with the Inhibitor.

This sounds somewhat similar in theory like the vagus nerve experiments that are going on, using a combination of sound and stimulant... ?

John--Do you know where one can purchase the equipment or is that not possible? I did some searching and couldn't find anything.

No I do not know where this device is available. I searched it and found that this idea has been around for about 10 years but limited information. I'd like to get your thoughts on this concept...

In terms of the concept or approach I think it makes a lot of sense. Seems to fit in with a number of treatment approaches. I think it has lot's of merit, but, ultimately there will need to be a profit potential for any particular method to come to market, unfortunately, IMO.

I for one am glad they are working on this, and may some day find the cure.

The only thing I disagree with you on here is that I think there is a huge profit potential for a real tinnitus therapy, treatment, pharmaceutical... Genvec, Merz, Aurus, Mutebutton, Vagus Nerve and several others not coming immediately to mind says to me that this condition is thought profitable and is also being taken seriously enough. In addition the US Government could save about a billion dollars a year if real help was available.

This is a cynical thought and I'm not sure I'd wish this on anyone, but if Oprah, or Gates, or Trump...got severe tinnitus, help would be accelerated.

Actually, John, I was trying to make a similar point, in that sound therapies don't hold nearly the profit potential, IMO, as do a pharmaceutical approach, thus, I believe we will see more in that area developed then in non-pharmaco therapies. So, yes, I do believe big pharma will get into the business. I just say it's "unfortunate" as other therapies may not receive the funding necessary for research.
