This is my answer after 11 months
1. I am also not habituated and struggle with the day to day t issues of volume and never knowing what it will do. I found DS 1 month into my t and it was the best thing in the world. I have met wonderful people and people that support me and that I can support. This makes me feel so much better, To know that someone understands and can relate to what we go through. I am hopefull that someday I will not even pay it mind and be able to just get on with it. I am not there yet.
2. I do enjoy life but there are good days and bad days, When there are bad days I try not to be hard on myself. I let myself have a few of those days and look forward to tomorrow. I am better then when I got t last November - no more panic attacks - handling it much better in many respects actually enjoying some things again. As I understand it - this is a process. My thoughts, prayers, and support goes out to everyone.
Maybe it varies depending on what the T is - initially my T was like someone shrieking along with a fire alarm noise and a rushing wind sound. Not for the most part it's just the rushing wind sound with some occasional clicks.
I think I have ADHD which for the T is good because I just can't pay attention to it. But I've found it's a sound I can ignore and really I need to focus on hearing people's voices and what's being said to me. I don't have time for the T - except in a place like a wedding reception with the band blaring and then I can't stand the T - then it sounds like a monster's heart beating really loud in my ear.
If you really want to get rid of the T, get a hearing aid for the T ear and the hearing aid sounds will drown out the T but you might not like the constant white noise that a hearing aid will send down your ear canal.
