HRiddle,You are spot on with your post. Yesterday tinnitus was loud but tolerable. Today absolute hell. Have always said it's nothing but torture. I have tried most everything since coming down with it in October of 1999. 12 years. Gee another year goes by. At this point masking is the one thing that has kept me alive. But i'm very tired of the unpredictability of this stuff also. Very tired.

Oh, and I agree with your post just a few above this one, Heidi. You said it perfectly! I know just how you feel. I think I have cried more this year since getting T than I have all the years of my life put together. =/

I have had tinnitus as a high pitched ringing for the past 8 years. Six years ago I suffered from sudden unexplained hearing loss in the other ear, which fortunately returned almost 100% within two weeks. Would you believe that two weeks ago I suddenly lost most of the hearing in my first ear and now have not only the high pitch but also the very loud sound of hearing loss? I can't get out of my head!! I have been on prednisone for 15 days to try to regain the hearing but so far not good. The advice of white noise (fan next to my bed), which used to work, no longer works because I can't hear it any more! At work I am able to escape the sounds through distraction but of course most of my hearing is compromised, making work almost impossible. Thanks for listening!

I am so sorry about your hearing loss along with the T!!! That is terrible. I hope the hearing will return to this ear as it did the other one. Does having the fan near your good ear help not hear the T in the one with loss at all?? I pray this ends for you. Would a hearing aid work in the ear with loss? In other words, could you hear at all if an aid made things louder for you? Or is the hearing 100% gone in that missing range?

not a nice place to be when you have t too...i have empathy for you...
i have hearing loss in both ears but my left is the worst...always has been since i was a child ...never get used to it ....i have hearing aids for both ears...but whether it is me .they irritate my inner ear,and effect my sense of touch,but boy was it amazing when walking in the woods to hear all the brirds,,,i just stood and couldnt take it all in ...so for thast purpose,to hear wildlife was just lovely,the T will not win,will not tip me over the edge,the hearing loss will not beat me too ,too much living to do ,and do what ever it takes ,never give up...it makes you a stronger person,and keep asking questions ,
keep your spirits up....

Thank you both for your support! Unfortunately this is nerve damage so once it's gone it's gone for good. I've been very protective of my hearing of course, wearing headphones when flying, etc. Now wearing Bose noise cancelling phones when I need them as well. We are actually heading for Europe for a multi generational birthday celebration at the end of this month and I am very very nervous about going with the current condition of my ears. At any rate at two weeks out and no good hearing I am starting to feel more down than up at the overall prognosis. My hubby told me to find some folks online to commiserate with and I'm glad I took his advice! :)
