Amen to that! The first 1 1/2 years it was 95% of the time a consistant high pitched squeal. Now I do get "low" days so I am happy about that but it does depress one when you never know what will prompt the "regular" noise that has become my constant companion.

P.S. It does get better, think of a new appliance that you get in your home, maybe it makes a sound when it is working. Then after it is in your home for a period of time, you do not hear it anymore, it becomes part of the everyday sounds that you hear in your home and your brain just does not acknowledge it anymore. Same with t.

I'm at the point where I listen to music and white noise for the entire day. I knew this day would come but it's the best that I can do. I also listen to white noise with headphones at night and it really helps me to fall asleep. You do what you have to do. It stinks but it get's me through the day and night's.

I agree with Mafal. Please do hang in there. Its tough, we all know because we deal with it too. I have good and bad days. I pray, I have hope, I hang in, because T is NOT going to beat me. Life has too much to offer for me to let T take it away from me. Do what you need to do to cope. And one day at a time. Love, Judy

Every night, I get up around 3:00, and I can't go back to sleep.

I believe God Willing, that there is a silver lining in all this.

Somebody, at some point, will find a cure. I truly believe that.

There is just so many different things in the works, something is going to move to forefront.

Tham, sorry to hear about your living situation. My husband makes more noise than I would like but not intentionally. I have to remind him to try to keep the noise down. If he did it intentionally I would feel very angry.

Heidi, I know just how you feel with the changing sounds--it's always a wonder what I will wake up with in the morning. What I wake up with I basically have all day, except it get louder as they day goes on. I find myself often spending the day counting the hours until I can go back to bed and hope for a better day tomorrow! What a yucky way to live. And how does one habituate to a sound that is always changing in volume. tone, and location? (One ear to both ears to brain.)

Heidi, if you are already on Trileptal (I think you said) could you ask the doc about increasing the dose a little to see if it helps, or even just adding a TINY BIT of Klonopin in to see if that quiets the sound some?

Also, though my white noise generators weren't cheap, I do find them soothing to have at a level just under the sound of my T (except on very bad days when I have to turn them up loud, then even that starts to get on my nerves). They are also very portable--before I got them, I was wearing an ipod everywhere and playing mostly pink noise on it. At least with these I can put them on and forget about them the rest of the day. Again, not cheap but maybe worth it if you think it would help you keep your sanity and habituate some. Hang in there, girlfriend. I know it isn't easy. I've hit a year now and it's still a struggle for me.

Tham!! I am so sorry you are having to deal with this nonsense. You are very right about those boys treating their father just that way one day, or they will treat someone in authority that way some day and wind up arrested and in prison. In the meantime you are having to deal with all this torture. You should tell your brother that you will only leave if he pays you X amount for your half of the house, and until then none of this little tricks will work on you. In the meantime, I'd buy one of those little spy cameras and keep it hidden and running in your room in a secret spot, and keep a record of all the things he/his boys do to you in case you ever need it in court! :(

I have been on Depakote since I was a child and it controls my seizures 100% of the time and I don't want to take the risk of switching meds and have anywhere from 1 to 100 absences seizures throughout the day. Thanks for the advice though.

I have had tinnitus for a little over 5 years now and I would think that if Depokote was the culprit of my tinnitus that I would've experieced this horrible afflection a long time ago. The only way to tell is to discontinue the medicine for a period of time until all traces have gone from my blood stream and I don't think that would be such a great idea for me, but I will discuss with my doctor. I will also bring this up with my son's neurologist who also is on depakote for absences seziures. Luckly he isn't experiencing tinnitus right now.

No one and I mean no one deserves to be tortured every second of every minute of everyday, but if you suffer from tinnitus you experience this daily. There have been days that I have wished for death so my suffering would end. I would never take my own life, but I understand why some tinnitus suffers would do just that.

My life was once full of joy, happiness, and promise, but now it is full of saddness,depression, and uncertainity. I have to fake a smile and pretend everything is ok on a daily basis when what I really want to do is cry.
