I have not done either but any book I've read about tinnitus writes positively of TRT. Neuronomics is newer so I haven't read as much but I know that Debbie is having good success with it. I don't think it'll be a waste of time or money.

The yuku site that you mention is the one I first found when my tinnitus started over 11 years ago. Read much about TRT and it just got more confusing. Neuromonics the very same thing. I came away with the opinion that some people it did help and others that thought it was a waste of money. I have not tried either one. Are you sure you could not find someone who does TRT closer than 600 miles? On this site(DS)people are doing there own TRT. You might want to ask them what they think of it.

I am doing TRT now, but I am only in month four. Others on this site are also doing TRT. I have heard of some people doing TRT on their own using ipods or generators purchased from the UK for much more cheaply than here.

By "more cheaply than here," I meant more cheaply than in the U.S.

Also, if you have a Medical Savings Account through work, check to see if it will cover generators through an audiologist. Even though our health insurance wouldn't cover the cost of my generators, our MSA did.

I appreciate the all the comments. I live in Kentucky and have not found anyone that was trained in or by Dr. Jastreboff's TRT. The doctor I found in Philadelphia, Dr. Gail Brenner, (www.tinnitus-philadelhpia.com) was trained by Dr. Jastreboff. I have a 4 hour appointment so I can have all the exams and get started the same day since I live so far away.
McMurdo, do you feel like TNT is helping? I have been wearing ear buds with a cd of a rain shower playing just below my T level for about 2 months, but I can't say that it helped other than take my mind off the T. Also, I am a federal retiree and have used my insurance to buy hearing aids which they will do every three years. I had a medical savings account while working but do not have that option as a retiree. I will have to pay the entire bill for TRT.
I appreciate deltadart's comments and I have read as much information as I can find on TRT and Neuromonics. The yuku site has some good information, but they treat TRT as if it were a joke. I believe that TRT works, and I believe that a person can habituate to T eventually, but I am not to that point at almost 8 months since my T started. But, I am better that when it started. I could not sleep or see any peace for the first 3 months.

Last year when I was researching options I emailed a man from this site who went to Dr. Gail Brenner and he had nothing but wonderful things to say about her and TRT. I think you are doing the right thing.

msstringer1,that is really a tuff call to make. I'm doing TRT and am on my 6th month. It is alot harder for me to deal with tinnitus if I'm not wearing mine, I don't think they will fix me but It does distract my mind away from the ringing. I did get a chance to try neuronmics and I really liked it but I hated the wire. Before I did this I used a walkman radio and the wire would get hung up on every thing. I think the reason I liked neurnomics so much is that there was alot more noise with it. Just like Julie and suera said Debbie is doing neurnomics right now and she would be glad to talk to you about it. Very nice lady. Just like the other guys have said both seem to work for some people and not work for others. It is a tuff decision to make being they cost so much. I wish I could have given you a better answer. To be honest with you the reason I did not do TRT and Neuromonics was the price. Several people have said for the price of the Neuromonics program what you got was basically a very cheap MP3 player. But I urge you to talk to someone that has done or is doing either program.

This is what I did several years ago and I made my choice. For me I have found that masking my tinnitus on a daily basis is what works for me. It's not for everyone but were talking about a very strange (tinnitus)ordeal here.

PLEASE talk to several people about the TRT and Neuromonics. They are the people you should listen to when it comes to making a decision about either program,not me. I do wish you the best of luck. John

I just passed month 4 of TRT so I can't tell you yet if it is helping, but I agree with Frank in that I was glad to free of my ipod wires. : ) I got T in late August last year and had the same horrible first three months you did. I do know that with my gens in running just under my T level, I can stand to listen to my T for 8-16 hours a day, whereas before I could hardly stand it for 2 hours before I just had to go back to masking. I have to think (pray) this (listening more to my T) is helping with habituation. Hope so, anyway.

Mandie on here had success with TRT and so did Fall. (Mandie started TRT after 4 years of not being able to habituate and was better after 1 year of TRT.) I think JMcCarty on here had success with Neuromonics and it seems to be helping Debbie who is in month 4.

Though Neuro is more expensive and has wires, you only have to wear your device 4 hours a day. With TRT, 8 hours is the minimum--longer is better. Some places that offer these (TRT and Neuro) now offer payment plans so you don't have to pay all at once--pretty sure Debbie said Duke (where she goes) offers such a plan.

And, as I said, you could buy the white noise gens from hearingdirect.com as some on here have done for much less--about $700/pr. : )

I have used Neuromonics which was great when my T was at a reasonable level. Took many months but well worth it.
Unfortunately my T is at a level now where nothing helps but I still use my neuromonics as I find it really calming.
I think its definately worth trying

Oh, and Neuro is only supposed to take about 6 months--TRT generally takes about 1-2 years.

I am doing TRT here in Louisvillle, KY with Dr. Melanie Driscoll, she has done TRT but only to a very few. She contacted Dr. Jasterboff's office and was referred to Dr. Marsha Johnson at the Oregon Clinic for guidance.
I did the tinnitus guide booklet with the doctor and learned a lot about my condition. Now almost 3 months into it I still get bad days but I also am getting more good days. My HAs are Widex 440s and I listen to the zen tones when things get really bad, but mostly I listen to white noise. My TRT is a little more custom for me, some people are strict Jasterboff believers. I believe whatever works, and work with the local talent if possible.

After 3 months into this I feel things are better, I am no longer hiding in my room on bad days. As a matter of fact I can tolerate the bad days much easier now.

Small world, I went to the same group (Hear Here) only I saw Austin Black. They were opening a new office off the Gene Synder on Bardstown Road. I talked to him about TRT and he sold me a better set of hearing aids than the ones I had. I saw him twice, but it is over 120 miles from my home in Somerset to their office. He took a lot of time with me and was very interested in helping with my condition. Dr. Black wears hearing aids and has had tinnitus since he was a child. I am supposed to go back in August, but I will probably be taking TRT by then. I kind of wished that I had not bought the hearing aids now that I know that my insurance will only pay for one set every three years with a $500 deductible.
