Hey everyone!
I am presently taking 40mg daily of Simvistatin since June of 2008 and noticed occasional tinnitus high pitch ring in one ear when just sitting watching TV about once a week until 6 months later when full blown constant tinnitus locked on to my right ear with it sometimes weak in my left ear too. I have never put the statin drug togather with the tinnitus (This was the only prescribed drug I have ever been on ever for a long period of time)but after a GOOGLE search found that in fact it could very well be the source of the problem.I am going off the Simvistatin drug cold turkey today and picking up a liver/kidney cleanse at the health food store today.Is anyone else on this drug (also known as ZOCOR)and also experiencing ringing nonstop in both ears? The drug also causes muscle aches and weakness as well as GI track problems all of which I have experienced in the past.Both My Mom and dad were on the drug and had to lower the dose to 20mg from 40 mg due to similar problems.(NO Tinnitus though, I was the lucky one that got that present) JUST A THOUGHT FOR ALL YOU T BUDDIES!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Damn I wish they could tie this tinnitus stuff all together and find the common thread that causes these noises. I am convinced that once it takes up residence in the brain it is a bitch to get it to leave, for whatever undiscovered reason. This we hope science can find the answers for.
Yes, I have heard about side effects from drugs causing t but I have not experienced that. I was on a beta block called Toprol and had some weird stuff happen such as fantastic vivid dreams, but no tinnitus. My t supposedly comes from hearing loss.

haven't heard of the 'statin's creating T, but, there are so many individual results it's hard to say.

I have been on Zocor for about five years and have had no problems with it. I know people have, but mostly muscle problems I understand.
I have been on Neurontin and I find that is helping to some degree.
But, who really knows what works for one does'nt always work for another.
Mark, I agree, it has to be a brain thing. Neurontin works with the brain as you probably know. It can be worse for the T. or help. I was told that by an ENT.
All I can say is, "someday"

I have just purchased some at the local drug store (sold many places, no prescription required). I am starting a 6 week trial....it seems worth the risk,but of course one should always discuss this with ones doctor.
I wil report back on my success....even if it doesn't work for me I wonder if it might work on those who have not taken a statin as long as I have.
Its been about 3 weeks now since I stopped taking my Zocor and continued taking 200mg of CQ-10 while off it. Head noise has dropped significant with one full day that I didnt notice it until in a quite room. I did notice though after a large bowl of Ice Cream that the T spiked. No more dairy for me. After a year with T I have made the mental decision that bit will not interfear with my life and keep busy. Also found an application on my Iphone called "Get High Now" that has a lot of audio tracks that disrupt the T and make me feel better!

Seems there have been quite a few studies on it. As far as I can tell there are some benefits to using it if you are on statins because statins can lower CoQ10 supplies in the body.
Yet studies found that CoQ10 use for general tinnitus sufferers was inconclussive.

THANK YOU! I just started taking simvastatin three days ago. I'm so glad I read this and the article you referenced! I'm stopping it right now and am going to try diet and exercise instead of these drugs.
