Please take it one day at a time. Try to keep busy and get your mind off of your T.
Are you on any meds for depression? Can you get any counseling for yourself?
There are many of us suffering with this high pitched terrible scream 24/7 and we are all finding ways of coping.
You need to try and be more possitive that this will be tolerable one day. You have your whole life a head of you, live it sweetie.
There are many people here for you,
A big warm hug,
Sandy
When I was hanging by a thread, lorazepam - a benzo - saved my life. It let me sleep at night. See the New Zealand Medical Journal. Benzos help t., one of the very few drugs that do. They may not help the t directly but they let you cope with it and live through it and then beat it.
I would consider weaning yourself off of the amitriptyline. I was on this for three days and developed new sounding tinnitus in both ears and my left ear isn't even the bad one. I understand about doctors not wanting to help. I have been through two ENT's and will be seeing a new doctor on the 10th. I am working with my GP and a doctor at the Oregon Health Sciences University with Xanax. I have been on 1 mg for about a week now and can barely hear the t at all. It has allowed me to concentrate on my work and home life as well. The ENT's around here won't monitor me on Xanax because they say it's too habit forming. We'll see what this new doctor has to say. My next step will be a university a few hours away.
I pray every day for guidance through this journey. Every morning when I wake up I pray, Lord thank you for this new day that you have blessed us with. Please give me the strength that I need to make it through this day and to continue pressing on." He never fails!
I do hope that you find help soon!
I just wanted to tell you I am praying for you. Stay strong... you can do it. I don't know your entire story, I am relatively new to the board (since March), but from what I understand you are with someone who is not good for you. Juled... please do whatever it takes to break free. The stress is not good for your T. Please don't be afraid of being alone without this person, because you are basically alone with this person. Take baby steps and you will get there.
There has been a double blind test study for Xanax and it is widely used to treat patients with tinnitus. Xanax becomes dangerous if you abuse it above the prescribed amount. I don't use it for panic disorder nor for anxiety...I use it because it lowers the volume of my tinnitus. I am only on 1 mg per day and it took me almost three weeks to get to that level. I will wean myself off it after 10 weeks and will stay off of it for a month and go back on to therapeutic level if it is needed. I don't go over the prescribed amount and don't have a desire to. Anyone can abuse any type of drug including alcohol. I understand that this is not a long term solution just as people on anti-depressants or other benzos should not be on them for years. These drugs are not meant to be used for years and years. I have read stories of people on tremendous amounts of benzos and anti-depressants and now they can't get off of them because their bodies wouldn't be able to handle it. Have you tried to wean yourself off of the meds that you are on? If so, what happened? Amitriptyline is used to treat tinnitus, but it can also cause it. It made mine worse only after three days so I got off of it right away. If Juled is having worsening t then she may want to look at a different anti-depressant like Zoloft. I understand she's under a lot of stress, but it sounds like the med she's on now isn't even helping with the depression.
Klonopin is a benzo too. Might not be as strong as Xanax, but people have suffered tremendous withdrawal affects when weaning themselves off of it. There is going to be side effects to every med that a person takes. Did you know that there are hundreds of meds that have caused people to get tinnitus? Including antibiotics that are suppose to help with bacterial infections. See, there are side effects to every med out there.
I pray every single time before I swallow my dose of Xanax. The Lord will protect me and I believe when it is time to get off of it, He will protect me then too.
If you don't have the book Tinnitus: Questions and Answers, you may want to purchase it. It explains many treatment options for tinnitus of which Xanax is one. I have also spoken on two different occasions to a doctor at the Oregon Health Sciences University and he currently has 10-15 patients on Xanax therapy. I do try very hard to research and do my homework before doing something. I am not worried about addiction because my trust is not in the med, but in the Lord...He will watch over me.
Many blessings!
