What does your tinnitus sound like?
Take 2.
Sue
Diphenhydramine 50 mg
Trazodone,50 mg
Zaleplon 10 mg
and Ambien 10 mgs
and I am awake ALL night. I have noise generators, radios, and other stuff. If it's too loud, then it wakes other people in other parts of the house. To low, I can't hear it. To loud, I can't sleep with that!
I think I'm just doomed...
But,.... I'm happy.
So, last night, I took 100 MG of the Diphenhydramine around 10:00 pm. I went to bed around 11. I was still awake at 3am. 4 am 5:30 am. I think I fell asleep around 6 am. but I was awake again at 6:30 never to go back t sleep. I really don't spend a lot of time think about the insomiea, The Tinnitus pretty takes up all that thinking time....
My Tinnitus is a White Noise. When I was a kid, it was there, very low, I didn't think it was anything, I thought it was normal, I never mentioned it to anyone, "I thought it was Normal"... In my 30's, my wife said that I needed to see a hearing dr. So I did, that's when I found out that it is not normal. It had gradually gotten louder, but not very fast.... Then when wife #2 came along (the abusive animal) I found that every "stressfull" incident would make my T get louder. It never, ever returned to the original level, just keep getting louder and louder. So after 10 years of that, my noise, which btw is not in my ears, it is being produced by my brain. So here I am now, the noise is at 11. I can not think straight, telephone calls are out of the question, work is not an option, except stuff I do on my own. Producing a movie, playing in a band that is louder than I am...
So that is where I am. I'm not sure if that 100% answered you question, but ask more and I'll try my best....

I am sorry you are going through this. Not sleeping literally makes me sick.
My doctor gave me Neurontin at one time for a neck injury. It is used for many things, but also for healing damaged nerves, which I had in my neck at the time. I found if I took it before 11:00 I was out like a light, with minimum drowsiness in the morning. I took 600 mg per night.
I hope you find something that will help.
Hugs,
Sandy
I know it sounds stupid, but you could try to externalize your head noise at night, since many people use white noise machines to sleep.
It takes time, but its possible.
You also have to divorce your second wife, unless she has stopped abusing you.
I too have been trying to get my sleep back on track. I have had tinnitus for 3 years, but the t doesn't bother me any more. I've tried TRT for the past 18 months and it has helped a little bit, but not as much as I would have liked. My sleep issues were due to a combination of things, but not because of tinnitus. I am currently taking 25mg of doxepin at night and have been for a little over a week. I absolutely hate having to take meds to help sleep, but my sleep problems were getting worse even when I used stimulus control. I am currently taking a B complex and magnesium/calcium/zinc supplement, but they don't help much. I've tried homeopathic stuff which also didn't work. I was tired of getting only 3-4 hours of sleep a night so I had to give in to a drug. The doxepin doesn't necessarily help me fall asleep any faster, but when I do fall asleep I do get that REM sleep that is needed and if I happen to wake up after 5 1/2 hours or so of sleep I can fall back asleep for a couple of hours. I do use stimulus control when I can't fall asleep quickly. I get up out of bed go to another room and don't turn any lights on and just sit there until I feel sleepy. Sometimes I have to do this two or three times a night, but I do fall asleep.
For the tinnitus I wear noice cancelling headphones hooked up to an MP3 player that plays continuous white noise. It works great!
I would love to be able to fall asleep before midnight especially with my kids going back to school soon. I'm working on that now. My problem is I just have a hard time getting comfortable so I am trying new pillows and mattress toppers to help with this. One of these days I'll get it right.
Best wishes to you!
