Hello,
I am wondering if any of you have ever experience a few days or weeks of near silence, not completely...T free, .but very low key T, and almost,...... just almost, feel normal again? And almost, just almost forget you have a T, disorder?
If I may use a metaphor out of sight out of mind but only in my case out of sound out of mind. I will do so.
The past couple of weeks I have still woken up with the usual hiss in my ears, but even that has been significantly lower and the panic to hop out of bed and shake it off by taking a hot shower, then keeping overly busy was not necessary.
My T was at a level that I did not feel anxious and it was almost nearly unnoticeable during the day as well, it was very nice in deed.
I even experienced one of my migraines that I get every 8 to 10 weeks on Monday and my T was actually at bay, and my ears usually ring when I have a migraine. Very odd!
I was a bit apprehensive about taking the foricet pill for my migraine, but decided to take it and my T did not worsen one bit, that was good, since that pill really gets me out of the ER, it takes the edge off the pain. It is a mild seditive, Tylenol, and caffiene.
In my past week of near normalcy as I think I felt before my sudden unset with my T that is...(chuckle) I did stop here and there and think, hummmmmm, I wonder if my T is getting better or if I am just getting used to it?
But in truth, I do truly believe my T was improving, with the possibility that I also have adjusted to it some of course.
As I have stated I have always had T to a mild degree, but just cant remember what it was like before the sudden onset of significantly worse T., approx two months ago. So, I am kind of not sure what normal was before, if that makes any sense to you.
Well, unfortunately, yesterday and today I had an odd nerve pain in my TMJ joint, I have had it before, it comes and goes..but it is very painful. So I took a few aspirin/Tylenol mixes, more than usual to ease the pain.
Needless to say, but I will, later today my ears started with a very loud hummmmmmm, then my right ear started making a noise like a loud squeaky wheel and just would not let up!
I am not sure if it was just a coincidence that my ears suddenly started to become actively nosey after taking more aspirin and Tylenol or not.
I have been taken one adult aspirin by doctors orders for the past 8 years and sometimes two a day if needed. The doctor stated that up to 6 aspirin a day is safe, as long as I did not have any stomach problems. I hope that is true as I have trusted my doctor.
After experiencing the T., and learning that aspirin can cause T, I started taking a lower dose of aspirin, however my ENT stated that only high doses can cause T, also,so a bit confused about that. Is it just a large toxic dose, or can ongoing one adult aspirin possibly cause T also...but in my case, the sudden would not make sense, it appears it would of been slow onset..right???Errrr, wish I knew!!!!
So again, like when I had the first had the sudden onset of T, two months ago, the fear set in that it wont let up, or get worse, and then what will I do, how will I carry on, when it is so loud...nothing covers it up...Yikes!
Is this a common phenomenon, for T to improve for a week or so, come and go, ya sort of forget about it, then it comes back, loud and clear and you start the same turmoil over again?
What was I doing right to improve it, now what did I do wrong to make it come back so profound.
I have limited all salt from my diet, read labels, drink only water, eat 3 healthy meals a day, lost 15 lbs, and walk a mile or more each day, trying to rid my T., and thought it this past week, it was working, and as I said...almost forgot about it!
However with this set back, I got a bit paranoid.....I thought since the aspirin I took yesterday and today was the same no name aspirin that I took two months ago, when I usually take Bayer aspirin, so I pondered over thinking maybe since it was a no name brand of aspirin the dose was somehow accidentally mixed stronger, causing a toxic level of aspirin...crazy thinking I know!
Then, I pondered over wondering if I might of ate something different, done something different to make my T reappear so noticeable again.
So, I tired to out smart my T., or should I say fight it tonight. I took a hot shower, and a xanax. I do not take xanax often, then I sat and just thought positive calming thoughts and now posting here...
My ears seem to have quieted down a bit, but still noise is present, I am hoping this is normal to happen, maybe even good that I have periods of relief.
Your experiences or input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Pattylyn

The strange thing was when i went home for the weekends and woke up in my own bed on each Saturday my T was back with a vengeance ! The T would then be with me until i had gone back to college and slept at least one night in the residential accommodation. For several months i tried everything i could to work out why it was going quiet at college. Each weekend i was back at home i tried following exactly the same daily routine as when i was at college. I tried eating the same , sleeping the same , working the same , staying in the same amount of noise , same pillow height , same food but every Saturday without fail the T came back as loud as ever !
I started to get paranoid that it was something to do with radio signals or mobile phone microwave relay masts so after 3 months i just had to stop worrying about it and accept the fact id never work it out. Now i have finished my college course and him back at home and for the first 2 months my T was very loud without a break. Now it seems to have settled down a little. I'm getting about 1-2 quietish days a week which to be honest is better than none at all. I've been thinking about going back to the town where i did my college course and staying in a hotel for a few days and see what happens. It might just be something to do with the area i was staying in for whatever reason. My ENT specialist was not any help on the matter , she just said it was probably because i was busy and was just no noticing the T when i was there..urgh!!
Meant to add that large doses of aspirin can cause T. Havent heard that small doses do. Also, TMJ or pain in that joint might be something to check out. If its TMJ, that can cause tinnitus and if you are having pain there, who knows?
It took me about 6 months to finally figure out that I will never figure out what caused my tinnitus. I think once a person reaches that stage they will be better off. Tinnitus is a crazy thing to try and figure out. I do try and take it 1 day at a time. That way of thinking has been a big help. Good Luck. John
I don't really get quiet weeks--I will get a few quieter (though not gone) T days in a row, but that's it. In the beginning, I would have a "no T day" sometimes, but I don't really get those anymore (I've had teakettle T since August).
I agree that some people (40%, in fact) will never know what caused their T, but you should get checked for all the things that can cause T--get your blood tested, hormones/thyroid tested, sinuses checked, MRI, TMJ checked, checked for GERD, etc. 25% of T is from "fixable" causes!
If nothing shows up, then yes, you just have to realize that you fall into that % that truly has idiopathic T.
One thing that helps me is diet--basically the diabetic diet. Does it make every day a good one? No, but my T reduced by half when I went on it:
http://www.tinnitusformula.com/infocenter/articles/treatments/sugar_met.aspx
Even though Drs claim I am not diabetic, I DO know sugar or MSG spikes my T, and things that lower blood sugar--a cup of coffee, green tea, a glass of red wine, cinnamon--make my T quieter (usually), so there is a connection there. (Some people on this site claim that coffee actually lowers their T--if I slowly sip a coffee with espresso in it all day, my T stays low all day, like it is when I first wake up, instead of getting louder as the day goes on.)
Salt doesn't seem to affect my T.
Sadly, though, that "brain loop" of T has already started last August (maybe from ear infections I had? Not sure.) and so I'm stuck with the T. I've been checked for just about everything; all I can do now is realize T is often really random and do the few things I know that lower it most of the time, and avoid the things I know that spike it.
VITA--I have been there, too! When I went to Mobile, AL with my daughter--no T! I thought I must be "allergic" to Arkansas, lol, since it came back when I was home. Then went with my daughter to Galveston, TX thinking my T would go away again once out of Arkansas, but no luck. :( And YES, we do know the difference between NO T and being distracted from it.
