Hi, I'm new to the group but hav had T for many years. Around 2 years ago it changed from being annoying to threatening my sanity. I'm 65 and have similiar symtoms mixed in with tree frogs and Cicadas. I don't seem to have a hearing problem but I would be very interested to hear how your hearing aid works.

These cost 1500.00/ea which is inexpensive for hearing aids.

It's a hearing aid designed to amplify high pitch sounds with white noise generators included. They really help...no t cure but a big help.

I have about a 60 db hearing loss in both ears but a very loud obtrusive high pitch eeeeeeee in my left ear. My righ ear has t also but hardly noticable. Strangely my hearing loss is about equal in both ears.

I do not need hearing aids for conversation. My mid and low tone hearing is fine.

Yes, I've read MandiGrace's experience with Widex Zen 440. Frankly, that has been a big influence with me finally taking some action. ANYTHING is better than what I've experienced these years and it is getting worse! Thanks McCurdo and JohnK for your valuable input. What a journey! Pat

Guys if you can do this cheaper and it works - easy to use and effective - let us know - when I was doing it - so little to go on - had to just jump in the pool - but I am getting better - and I guess I'll just have to tell myself that it is priceless.

This afternoon I got the final fitting for my hearing aids/maskers. The manufacturer's rep and doc spent 1-1/2 hours with me setting programs, etc. I've only worn them a couple hours but CERTAINLY can hear better already. The maskers are interesting. It is difficult to report any results (maskers) because today happened to be a low T day. We got a good laugh out of that. Follow-up is in a week, then 2 weeks, etc. until the end of the 30 day trial period. Right now I can say the $$$ spent are worth it already because of improved hearing. Goodness me, I've been missing a LOT! :-) Pat

So happy for you - my first month with hearing aids - my ears were sore for 3 weeks and then it suddenly went away. My first three months with tinnitus instruments - playing the white noise- I had tea kettle spikes for first three months - but now they have stopped.

I had so much support on this board and people warned me it would have some bumps in the road.

Hey pat, can you turn your white noise off and on? I know some people - once it is programmed they have to go with the program.

I have a remote control- i can turn off white noise and I can increase volume or decrease volume depending on the situation I find myself in - church, music too loud - movies - too loud - some of my friends - too low - some of my other friends - too loud.

Glad you are having results with your aids, lets hope they help the tinnitus as well. I have had mine now since June and I haven't looked back. Mine don't have the gens on but they do have bluetooth so I can play white noise if I need it, so far I haven't needed to use that feature much at all. For me these aids have been a lifesaver and I would urge anyone with high frequency loss to give them a go, but make sure you get a good audiologist and good quality digital aids.

Yes, I can turn the white noise off and on. I have 4 programs - #1 aids w/white noise; #2 aids alone; #3 aids w/white noise for "restaurant" situations; #4 aids alone for "restaurant" situations. Next week another program will be added for white noise alone, but frankly I don't know I would use it that often. So far I've kept them on #1 and am pleased. Today is another low T day (a miracle in itself), and I'm getting used to actually hearing what people are saying. LOL So far the only down thing is EVERYTHING is amplified - handling paper, footsteps, dryer buzzer, computer keyboard, etc. Maybe it is all normal and I simply didn't hear it! Hi Mandie, I have the Phonak Audeo Smart V. The Audiologist I went to used to work for Phonak so he really understands them and how they work, really a great advantage if the audiologist you go to has a good understanding of the aids he is dispensing.

The other great thing is, we travel a lot in our motorhome, so I can watch DVD's on my laptop and listen through my hearing aids, saves fighting over the telly :-)

Well, yesterday things reversed with my hearing aids / maskers. Mr. T was raging all day in both ears - tea pots eeeeeeeeeee - and I really think the aids magnified it.- couldn't hear the maskers at all. I'm calling the audiologist (sp?) today and may return the aids. This REALLY has me down. Pat

that's why I tried to warn you in a previous post right here - I went through the EXACT same thing and NOW, month 8 - still doing it - no tea kettle - I don't know why the brain gets angry with us and does this. It sucks.

Also, I went through the trial of overamplification - around week 3 - my brain totally accepted my new world of hearing - when I take out my aids to shower- the world sounds dulled down -

Yeah, I am so happy for you- hang in there - I hung in there with xanax .25 mg four times a day - then I snuck to another doc - got another rx for it - and for a few weeks snuck double -

The tea kettle months - one, two and three - I wasn't as strong as I thought I would be and sometimes I just thought I wouldn't make it -
