[00142] This clinical study is expected to further demonstrate that neramexane has the capability for a sustained improvement of tinnitus even after the drug is withdrawn and that, therefore, neramexane may be useful as an interval therapy in the treatment of tinnitus which allows for medication-free intervals without patients experiencing a deterioration of their tinnitus, or as maintenance therapy in the treatment of tinnitus to prevent recurrence of tinnitus in patients through administering a reduced dose of neramexane. "

This is the narrative that the Merz used to apply for their patent on Neramexane. I have done similar searches to see what people are looking into as private companies often don't mention a thing to the media until they have their product ideas secured via a pending patent.

In either case, it would appear that Merz intends or at least hopes to have effectiveness using Neramexane as a treatment and maintenance therapy for T, and they believe the drug will provide lasting benefit in between maintenance dosing. But, I think you figured that out!
