Hi Everyone-

I've been suffering from something like hyperacusis. I can't tolerate any loud or high pitched noises. (That includes my kids if they get too loud while playing). I also seem to have hearing loss. I'm reading lips while I talk with people. I do wear ear plugs a lot!
I read that hyperacusis and tinnitus may be manifestations of the same ear problem.

Does anyone have any advice? How do you deal with this daily?

Vegnchick, I cannot give any advice regarding hyperacusis, BUT I know from experience ear plug use pushes ear wax back into the canal which definitely increases tinnitus noise! Pat

Noise makes my tinnitus louder. I was told I don't have hperacusis because it happens with high pitches. I may be wrong, but with hperacusis the smallest of sounds hurt your ears.
And be careful not to use the earplugs too much. Just for very loud sounds as your ears gets used to quiet and then it over reacts to all noise.
I hope you can find some relief, you will in time.

Thanks for all your advice. I've got to get back to the ENT. I'm not in pain from the smallest sounds... just sounds above a certain pitch and decibel level. My son has a good friend who has a loud voice. His voice is the pitch and decibel level that causes me pain--so I have to leave the room a lot when he's at my house!

I also have developed an extreme sensitivity to noise. Being in crowded social settings bothers me alot and when people laugh loudly and high pitched sounds hurt my ears alot. I think I have Hyperacusis. What is recruitment and how do you know if you have this or Hyperacusis? Also, My T gets worse around loud noise. I went to an Ent and he was no help at all. i am going to a specialist in November, so I will see what he says.
