When my T is loud and causing a LOT of distress[most of the time now] the hearing aid does nothing at all... nothing.... bob

I have reactive t and any noise will raise the volume. At first I would not go out of my home. I stayed in the rooms with no sound. My husband thought I totally lost it. He has the t that can be masked. He kept telling me not to think about it. Right!
I finally visited many ENTs and was put on antianxiety meds.
Well, still heard the t at it's worse. Except I was a bit more calm.
I finally went to the American Tinnitus Association. They told me about how rare reactive t was and first started me off with maskers. I thought I would lose my mind, it made my t react like I was hearing double the noise.
So I went back and they tried hearing aids. OMG, I could hear everything so much better including my t.
I returned them after about a month.
Then I was told to try distraction. So I got really busy with a choir I was in, and I worked in my yard for hours on end. I started to volunteer with an animal shelter. I bought Musian's ear plugs so I would not damage my ears more.
The distraction is one thing that truly helped, not cure, but helped.
Please dear ones do not take your precious lives. You will find what works for you at some point. And until then, you have DS, and people here that understand. We are a family. Let us find our way together.
Hugs and love,
