Hello,
Today I saw an ENT and was given a clear bill of health as far as my ears are concerned,in addition to having a perfect hearing test.
The doctor explained to me tinnitus, (as if I were new to the subject) saying he also has been a sufferer since a teenager, his audiologist stated she also suffers from T.
He confirmed the fact that the sudden "worse" onset of my T, could of been from stress, anxiety, the salty meal, the upset of my dogie passing, or my HPB. He added, it's very hard to determine, what causes tinnitus.
He stated I need to stop thinking about it, and learn to live with it. He added that 30 million folks here in USA have T and there to date is no known meds, treatments, or cures! So encouraging! I was a bit unhappy he did not even suggest "tricks of the trade" like you folks here have, except to lessen salt intake, and reduce my anxiety.
He asked what my main concerns were about my T and I stated, I feared having a brain tumor, or brain disease. He said, I was being rediculous.
He said, I had no neurological symptoms and would have, if there was something serious going wrong in my brain, or a tumor as well.
He noted that a perfect hearing test such as mine (they gave me a hearing test) rules out neurological tumors, saying I would have some hearing loss. Also, since I have T in both ears not just one, he concluded I needed no neurological work up, and did not need to come back. He added his job is to determine if my T could possibly be a sign of something serious, and he determined it not.
He did say that in most cases tinnitus is not due to ear problems at all, rather mis firing of a certain part of the brain.
So, with that said, it's all very confusing just how certanin foods, salt, and other things aggrivate T, if it is something to do with your brain...???....????....??? not your ears? He added that aspirin is a cause usually in very high doses, not a few a day.
I did tell the doctor that my T is severe upon awakening in the morning, and even after a nap. And added it is at that time a "hissing loud noise in both ears, then it lets up, and the nosise changes during the day to ring, hiss, and what evers...(chuckle) He said it only seems louder when I wake up, due to it is more quiet at that time.
Ok you folks, if one more person, or doctor tells me that my T is louder and severe upon awakening, due to it is just more quiet then, and I notice it more! I am going to SCREAM!
I know my body well enough to know my T, is WORSE when I wake up in the morning, in addition to after even brief naps. And it has NOTHING what so ever to do with it being more quiet!!!!
My ears are turly HISSING loudly, and different, when I first wake up, then it lets up after I am up a bit, as I have remarked, and others here have said the same happens to them...It upsets me that the doctor would not appear to believe me, and assumes I am crazy, or that it is due to the quiet, I hear it more. Oh well, you here belive me don't you? My T, is worse, louder when I first wake up.
Oh well, he said I do not need a neuro work up, and do not need to come back to see him either.
But I do have an appt with my neuro, in a week anyway. I saw her for my migraines, but have not seen her in three years, since my headaches are getting better as I age, and well under control, and not other symptoms except this darn T.
He did say, people that suffer from migriane syndrome can have an increase T. I did also have a migriane the day before my T got worse, but the migriane was no different then what I have had for years, and it went away just the same.
In other matters, I also saw the urologist, today and took my mom to the doctor. busy girl..(smile)
I need to have a scope test done of my bladder and kidney ultra sound. That doctor stated that microscopic hematoma is very common, and 99 percent of the time it is ideopathic. He claimed
since I have no bladder problems, no pain, nothing wrong in that department at all, that he is almost positive nothing is wrong, but the tests are protocal. I am still a bit scared, but am going to of course have the tests done in two weeks, the ultra sound this Wed.
Thats about it, thanks for listening.
I hope everyone is having a good day!

I think the main thing is not to constantly monitor the tinnitus. Most, if not all ENT's, tell their tinnitus patients to go home and live with it. Easier said than done, but there are ways to cope with it.
You may want to consider talking to an audiologist who is certified in TRT. I see one now who has been a wonderful blessing. I have gotten to the point where my tinnitus has not become so bothersome. TRT has greatly helped in this area. I am very thankful for white noise.
I've been down the road of meds and do not care to take that journey again. Meds are just a temporary fix anyhow and I really don't want to be on medication for the rest of my life if it is not needed. I believe one of the ways to habituate to tinnitus is by going through TRT. TRT retrains the brain to the point that the tinnitus is no longer bothersome even when a person has a "loud" day. I am still learning how to deal with the noise, but I've come a long ways from where I use to be. I no longer have to use sleep medication and to help with any type of stress or anxiety I drink a powdered magnesium drink at night.
Many blessings!

So go forward, its best not to dwell upon it, make every attempt to make t a little less important in your life, which is accomplished with distractions, "fun distractions" work the best. Time in your life to pursue something you would really enjoy. This is a feel good method to the "coping cure" of t.
There is no exact medical cure to t. There certainly is a coping cure, as I like to call it. Enjoy the day, feel positive, notice and smile at the little things (flowers and whatever appears to be cute), laughter is the medicine that you might be seeking.
Finally know your triggers (salty etc), stay away from those naps, (yes it is louder after a nap and it has nothing at all to do with it being quiet), get adequate rest at night and most important put life in perspective. Make an attempt to be cool about situations to keep stress under control. That feel so good!
Wish you to be well.
Sorry to hear of your tials and tribulations too, with T and Ms2R2 a special "hug" for you, since you appear to be haivng a time of it this week with "extreme" T syndrome in your life, in addition to hearing loss.
I did feel pretty happy with both the news from both doctors yesterday and actually felt pretty good about "life" in general, even planned how to start working in my flower gardens, and so on. We also have 8 acres of farm land that we plant on, but that is my husbands area.
But still, I have to have a ultra sound of my kidneys tomorrow, next week see the neuro, and the week after the scope test, and brave up and take yet two new meds. Lisinopril for HBP, and Crestor for high Cholestrol. And am so so scared, here they sit...
In regard to my new unset of Tinnitus, my family doctor saying not to worry, the ENT saying not to worry, guess what......I still am worried.
PLEASE don't get mad at me!!! However it appeared last night I felt as if my T., maybe subsided a bit, due to being assured it was nothing serious, and also it ususaly is just better later in the day.
But then, I woke up in the night to the sceaming HISS...........got back to sleep after a long while of woes and worries about it, then of course woke up with it louder than ever...my usual I suppose. And I will add, it was not louder when I woke up due to the quiet. (Chuckle.)
Unfortunatley, the gloom and doom feeling I have been waking up with, I still woke up with along with the loud T.
I feel very very depressed, and think I was in my dreams too. In part I feel, some is due to my sisters both out of state knowing I have had some medical issues, and that my mom was with medical needs all week, me taking her to appts, tests and so on, and I heard nothing from eaither, no eamail, no calls. Makes me sad. And as I noted to you folks, I have had a tough week with my ill mother, needing to go to her daily, and out to appts.. Ugggg, at least it was not below 0 and snowing like last win
I have hopes of not feeling this way to much longer, as I don't like it! And I truly need to get back to work.
Although I suppose I have slowly forgotten, that I saw the doctor ORGINIALY for dperession/anxiety...the depression sort of got tossed aside due to the T, and now the bladder scare on top of it all.
I need to take the medication!!!!!! Stop reading about them, and take them.. I know this, but the overwhleming fear of taking them, and having a bad side effect just takes over...
Also, still the fact that my T., from no inner ear problem, still makes me wonder....what is causing it..????? and why why is it so bad when I first wake up?
Yes, you can all say "shut up, and ship out to me," as I know you wish you could." Chuckle on my end.
So, I guess if you folks that it falls true to, AGAIN tell me, that you have T., worsen upon awakening, not due to it being quiet and after naps and have no inner ear causing your T., I might feel not so alone.
This is not to leave out out anyone who has inner ear causing their T., or me thinking your T any less or more signicant of course, and I appreciate any input from all of you.
Thanks for listening, support, and advice.
Have a wonderful day, its sunny here in WNY.

But if you insist on not taking your medication then that's your choice. We can only do so much on this tinnitus forum and if you choose not to take the medication your doctor has prescribed,I simply can't figure out what more we(I) can do for you. You have to do your part.
Most of us have some degree of hearing loss with certain sounds having us climbing the walls.
Thanks,
I suppose I need to stop looking up side effects too, of medications, and what folks say has happened to them, the bad things that is.
John, well I did take a 1/4 of a 10mg of the Lisinoprin... Does that count for any browny points?
I know that must seem rediculous that I did that, but I figured if I was going to be extrememly alletgic that would let me know..I am still here, so what do ya think?
I guess I should of said my hearing test was "normal" for my age, they did not say perfect, but it appeared I had no hearing loss in either of my ears noted for concern.
However I do hear sounds all the time too, not always loud, but since they are high piched, and in "waves," they are very annoying. Sometimes it is hard for me to listen/focus on TV/movie if I pay attention to my ear noise.
The noises I hear are ususally sisssss...isss, or sometimes sounds like bells, or high on and off sounds that sounds like a tea kettle, and then the hummmmmm, like I have always had when I am over tired, or I might have more than one nosie at once, that is dreadful, as many of you might have to, and not like.
Thanks John also, for the the kind words, telling me for the 100th time that T., tends to be worse for some, including yourself upon awakening...I appreciate how you have really been supportive.
Have a nice day...
Pattylyn
I wish you well, hang in there. I hope things will come together for
you. The more you learn the less you worry.

The bladder is not affecting my T, however I have to have a few tests done, regarding my bladder, which is adding to my anxiety presently.
In regard to the increased T., upon awakening.
I also thought possilby it had something to do with "sleep" "sleep cycle" or laying down. I did mention it to my ENT, as well as the audiologist. The ENT, stated it was most likely due to the fact that it is more quiet when I wake up, and I Just think the sound is T., is louder. Not trure!
At the time of my appt., I did not assert myself enough I guess, and say, NO, it is not just due to it being quiet, as I have said over and over here.
I guess, in part, that is why I still have fears that my T is something seriousm eveb after my family doctor and ENT, and audiologist say no it is not.
Due to it appears if my ENT, has been in practice for many years, has T, himself, and has seen thousdands of patients through out the years with this disorder, one other patient would of claimed their T., being much louder upon awakening, even after naps and not due to the quiet!
My theory would be hormones released, circulation, postion laying down, for what ever reason, clenching my teeth, which I might do at times, but not always, or maybe even blood pressue changes. So, it seems, those could be adjusted, or treated, limiting T. if they could be the cause.
But just saying, its due to the "quiet" when I know thats not true, upsets me, and leads me to more obsessing, and lack of trust in my ENT.
He did not really ask me much about my T, such as when it is better or worse, except for me telling him it is worse in the morning and after naps. Nor did he ask me its volume, if it keeps me up at night or so on.
He just asked if my T was in both ears, or just one, if I could hear ok, how long the increase started, if I was depressed/anxious lately, and what medications I was on, thats it! Then looked into my ears, said they look fine, gave me a hearing test, and sent me off. He said T., in many and most cases is not from the inner ear, but mis firing from the brain, due to ?????
It also appears that our medical world this day in age, would have some clue as to why T increases upon awakening from a nights sleep, during the night if you wake up and after naps.
I don't think I am over obessing when it comes to that and wondering why, do you folks think? If so, well maybe I should just stop I suppose.
I can and need to try to except this terrible new disorder, but feel that questioning its "ways" now new to it, if I might put it that way, is exceptable, even though I am a very anxious person, and do tend to obsess to a great degree.
Thanks...any input of course is appreciated.
