Guys, the email below, is for real. Why don't we contact Richard Salvi and Larry Roberts, and ask them their opinion.

It took some doing on my part, to find Dr. Peter Winkler's email address. I have to go through a couple of sources, to find his personal email address..

Hi Daniel,

I am Dr. Peter Winkler. I discovered TIPA and own the company and the patent. I am a very senior and highly respected ear surgeon. I developed TIPA on my own tinnitus as well as many patients. Richard Salvi and Larry Roberts are on the Scientific Advisory Panel of the American Tinnitus Association and know my work. Ask them.

Details of the science of residual inhibition are on the TIPA website on the Publications page and on the MEG Study page.

Be aware that TIPA does not work for all tinnitus patients. At this time it is not possible to predict who will respond. The only way to find out is to try it. Make sure to use the correct headphones. TIPA does not play on computers, only on iPod touch,iPhones (3, 3G or better) and iPad. See Instructions for Use on the App.

deltadart, here's what I find kinda suspicious. Winkler cautions against the use of the Bose QC 15 because the "noise canceling" effect may degrade the signal of the Tipa. The problem with that statement is that the Sennheiser HD280PRO have noise canceling also. I also find it a little fishy that someone who is selling a product like this has only tested it with one headphone. Any good quality headphone should be able to deliver the signal with minimal degradation. There are plenty of headphones that are quite a bit superior to the Sennheiser HD280PRO. I would also expect that he could state what the required frequency response of the headphones is. He does not provide this info anywhere that I can find.

In his statement it's sounds like he has tested other headphones and not just the Sennheiser model. I wish you all the luck and hope the program helps you.

Just to clarify the Bose QC15 does have noise cancelling technology which includes microphones on the inside and outside of the headphone cups. I think it works by producing counter sound waves to cancel out external noises.

The HD280PRO does not have noise cancelling technology. It simply has a good seal with a close ear cup to keep noise out.

Who knows if it makes any difference.

Bobsdream, yes you are correct on that. The Sennheisers are called "noise canceling" but do not have the same active system that the Bose have. My mistake on that. I have also used Etymotic earbuds, Bang and Olufsen headphones and Earjax tonics earbuds. All good quality equipment..
