I can relate all too well. Last weekend I walked on the beach right at lands end, waves crashing, and I could hear my T. I cope mostly with masking and hope. My ear maskers help some. Sound machines and sleep are my best friends. I also live in hope that a cure is near. Even if not a cure, something that provides considerable relief.

I'm about 14 months into this severe T. My T hasn't gotten any better and I still have bouts of depression due to this, but I am not in as much despair as I was even 6 months ago. I was hoping I would have adapted better by now. It's a long road and I feel like I'm driving a car with two flat tires and no spare.

I have a friend with severe T and menieres. He said it took him about 2 1/2 years to habitate to his T. In his own words, "this damned ringing in my ears is just another noise in an already too noisy of a world." As of tonight, I'm not so casual and accepting of this damned ringing but I'm better than I was.

Coping is the best way to deal with this. Even thoguh it seems impossible. Check out Neurominics. An Australian reseacher is on his 3rd or 4th clinical trials and there's seems to be some hope. I'm a skeptical optimist. William Shattner used and supprts something called tinnitus retraining therapy.

Just keep trying to find something that will help.What might work for some might not work for others.It is a hit and miss thing.

coping skills are exactly what the T works on. The part of the brain that deals with emotion, is the part that gives us the ability to cope. So in essence, if you master the coping part of T, then your ahead of the game by leaps and bounds. there is the challenge! And its a doosey!

I can relate all too well myself. I have a friend who got severe T at age 13 from a tire blowing up near his hear and bursting his ear drum. Surgery gave only temporary relief. He is very encouraging and tells me to hang in there, it takes a long time to habituate.

Another friend of mine with loud T in both ears and a resulting loss in hearing gets mad when I talk about it, although when mine is really bad, like today, talking is helpful somehow. He says it reminds him of his own T which he doesn't hear until someone reminds him of it, so I have to be careful not to discuss mine when around him.
