I just received an email that the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO is recruiting subjects for a rTMS clinical trial. Being that the study is being done in St. Louis and several visits are required, it would be extremely difficult for me to participate. I live near Philadelphia.

If anyone would like, please contact me and I'll give you the contact information.

rTMS is a magnetic stimulation treatment that has shown some promise is treating T.

I can't be in the trial - too far away for me too, but I am pulling for it to work!! My T is driving me bonkers tonight.

The information from Clinicaltrials.gov lists their web-site to see if you qualify for the study as https://tinnitus.wustl.edu. It does require you to go to St. Louis for several weeks of the study treatment.

I just found a rTMS clinic about an hour from my house that says they treat tinnitus. I have to admit that I'm intrigued. I'd love to know what kind of success they have.

No people with depression can participate? Isn't that kind of hard for people with severe, chronic T? That must disqualify about half the people available for the study right there, lol. : )

STL is 6 hours from me--and 25 trips is a lot at that distance! I'm glad to hear about the study, though!! Go T research!

Bob, how did you find an rTMS place near you??

I just googled "TMS Colorado".

My Doctor thought Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation might be a better alternative though and he said he could makes some arrangements with some of his colleagues to get me in treatment if I want to go that route. It seems a little scary to me but it might be worth trying.

Wow, I thought I was pretty well informed, but I don't even know what Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation is or does for T. I'll have to Google that! (Do you have a link for it you particularly liked?)

I have no idea what the cost is. The most common side effect is headaches.

I was actually asking what a TENS unit does for tinnitus(I've had them used on my back for back pain) and found this (which is a little hard to read because of the poor quality):

Price would be a major factor. The average relief period is only 3 days but I guess some people have reported longer periods after multiple sessions. My Doctors said they might put me under for the TENs since it could be painful. I havent ever read that before. In fact I used it to treat nerve damage in my knee and it was barley noticeable. That may have been at a low voltage though.

Bob--Ooooh, painful and being put under doesn't sound so good for an average of only 3 days! : /
