I took was taking lisinopril.. Not all the time, but I was using it.. I still think my T problem was due to acoustic trauma, but of course, now I am wondering if the lisinopril contributed.. What else can be done?.. NOT take blood pressure meds, and have a stroke???

@Bob...I understand what you mean about growing older. I felt fine before age 50. Then went into menopause. Due to lack of estrogen which keeps a womans veins pliable and flexible it was an incidental finding on an MRI to rule out any cause of tinnitus that I have two small aneurysms in my internal carotid high up in the cavernous sinus which indicated two mini strokes. Now I am on a low dose of 325 mg regular strength aspirin. I now have to see a vascular surgeon to determine if I need a CT angiogram to see if the artery might rupture which could cause a stroke. I dont like taking aspirin because of its link with tinnitus but I do understand you have to take high doses of aspirin for a long time for this to affect the tinnitus severely, who knows right? Your body does start breaking down mid life, its inevitable. Nothing prepares you for it though. When I was young I thought old people were old and I would live forever. Then I thought at 20 yrs. old that in 20 yrs. I would be 40 but that was a long way off. Well that came and went in 2000. Now Im 52 and I understand older people now and what they must be going through. Its not fun to accept aging. But for me it just drove home that I have to start exercising, lose some weight, and get in shape cardiovascular wise and eat differently. Do they know the cause for your high blood pressure? My husband has high bp and high cholesterol and he's on Lisinopril and Pravastatin for it. He needs to get fit and eat different both of which will help both of those thing go down unless it is genetic predisposition to it. Growing older definitely has its challenges. Judy

Judy, actually my BP is "high normal" most of the time, but I had spikes.. Thus the Lisinopril.. Even after losing 20 pounds my BP stayed about the same.. Now I am afraid to take anything, as T seems to be a side effect of every drug known to man!
I agree 100% about being 20,,, You think you are going to remain in that state forever.. Old people were old.. NEVER happen to me.. Sheer bullcrap... That being said, I see people in their 60's and 70's in terrific shape...... You and your husband, best to you both, and take care of one another... bob

I quit all medication on 1/26/2012 and I am monitoring my BP and glucose daily. I am sleeping better and I believe the ringing is lower. Taking Zestril (lisinopril) for over 10 year, I do not expect overnight results. I think this and other medications took a toll on my hearing. Cialis was one of the drugs I took the night before my ringing started. My blood pressure bottomed out at that time also. Doctors are going to be the last people in the world to admit that drugs are the major cause of tinnitus. They are doing the same thing with autism in children which is more than likely drug related.
Monday will make 2 weeks of drug free (prescription drugs) and I never plan on taking linisopril again. I will take my changes with the high blood pressure and would trade a shorter life without the ringing every day.

I started taking Enalapril back in June. It is also an ace inhibitor. My T has increased 10 fold since starting. The doctors say that it does not cause T but I also disagree. I am going to stay on the medicine because I do not want to have a stroke A couple of my friends have had one and it is not something I want to mess around with. Please let me know if your T decreases after you are off of it for awhile. I went from not having HP one day to a spike in BP the next and wammmmmm......BP med.

Susie, Monday will make 2 weeks since I stopped taking lisinopril and I believe I can already say for sure that it contributed to my tinnitus. The ringing is down about 50% now and I am sleeping better at night. What is scary to me is that an ACE inhibitor slows down your heart and my heart rate went down to about 50 beats per minute. I was taking diurectic along with lisinopril and both of these are thought to cause tinnitus. I believe that my hearing has already been damaged by taking these drugs. You should check into other BP lowering drugs since there are dozens. Check with your doctor before suspending your medication although I quit my medication on my own and do not intent to start it back.
