Had my total thyroidectomy 3 weeks ago and they found papillary microcarcinoma in two places. My surgeon said because of it's small size I won't need RAI. I went to my post surgery appt with my Endo yesterday. He told me that since I have Lupus that I will always show a higher level of Thyroglobulin Abs (they are at 18). Since they use thyroglobulin Abs as a tumor marker for reoccurances how will I know that the cancer has not reoccured somewhere in my body? He says he will monitor my levels every 6 months, but wasn't really clear how he will know if it is cancer returning or just my Lupus. Anyone out there have the same issue? And if so, what do they look for?

I am sorry I dont know much about lupus. I would look on the internet and see if there is something you can compare . If I find anything I will pass it along :)

Thyroglobulin levels are a huge indicator, so they can just watch to see if yours go significantly above 18. But they also probably should be doing a full body scan about 1 year from now. You'll ingest a little bit of radioactive iodine (not a full dosage like RAI) and then get scanned a number of hours later. The iodine will light up anywhere there are thyroid cells.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
