The thyroid makes at least 2 substances T4 and T3. Most Thyroid replacements are simply T4, Cytomel is T3. T3 is what really does the work and runs the metabolism, T4 is the supply waiting to get converted. Several organs in the body are capable of turning T4 into T3 not just the thyroid that is why most replacements are only T4 they let the body decide how much T3 it needs. Also T4 stays in the system much longer then does T3 (weeks compare to days) It sounds like they are using the Cytomel to make you feel better while your body builds up it supply of T4. I wish they had done that for me the times they made me go Hypo.

As I understand it Cytomel can have the same side effects as the others but the level your body needs depends much more on what you are doing each day then it does with the others so you might be see side effects more often.

Thank you! So if I stay as active as I normally do, then I should be ok and not have a lot of the hyper side effects? The drug information I've read doesn't say anything about this so I just assumed it could be like the Levothyroxine and the Synthroid meds I take. I do know that when I was first started on the meds, I got hyper real fast, dr had to drop the amount of meds for a couple of months, then graduate me up. I have had up to 5 different strenghts of meds here but never the Cytomel.
Does the T3 make the organs that convert more readily receptive to the conversion? Could that be the reason I felt so dang bad for the time I have? They were not receiving?
