Hi, I went through the same scare, I ended up having a total Thyroidectomy if Feb, turns out the cyst they were after was Benign, but found another that was malignant.

Just go through all the sonograms and Biopsy,s they suggest, I am cancer free now, and need no treatments.

Try not to get too upset about it. I had a cyst on top of my voice box, but it was papillary thyroid cancer. It was not attached to thyroid, but was malignant. Had it removed; no lymph nodes were involved. The surgery is not that bad and the treatments are not bad if it is malignant. They say thyroid cancer is one of the easiest to treat and I believe it. I was just pronounced cancer free after two years. You are in my prayers.

I guess I am lucky that they caught it so early because according to the lab report it is really small... One doc couldnt even feel it on my neck. (It was found on a CT becuase I had a PE). I have been through sooo much in the last year it is like when something good happens (PE is finally gone) theres something bad that follows. Guess i will see on Friday what they are going to do. Thanks so much guys for writing.

I had a beign cyst 17 yrs ago. The next yr I went for my check up the dr could not find the cyst. I did't have any problems until this yr when they felt another lump and it was papillary cancer. Do the testing and everything will be fine.

I have also been through a lot in the past year. But, it is better to know and move on than to worry about it. I had the same thing, and they found a 1.1cm nodule on my thyroid that turned out to be papilary carcinoma. I had a total thyroidectomy and all is fine!!! MSM24, How did it go? My nodule that was removed was benign. Was Hashimoto's thyroiditis- an autoimmune disorder. Still recovering from surgery, but glad it was not cancer.

I still dont know anything. Maybe get some news tomorrow or wednesday. i had an ultrasound today to see if it was truely a cyst (just fluid) If it is a cyst then it is nothing to worry about. if there is more to it than fluid than we will have to do more. My doc also did some tests on my thyroid. should get them back in the next couple of days also. I will let you guys know. I dont know if I can handle if it is cancerous!! so I am just hoping for the best!!

flipperclot I am glad for you too!! what does the imune thing mean? Are you going to have to take meds for it?

The immune thing means that my body, for some reason, decided that my thyroid was a foreign object and attacked it causing a very large nodule -like 3 cm-you could see it move when I swallowed. I don't know yet if I will end up with hypothyroidism. I will be tested in 2 more weeks and then every so often or if symptoms develop. I am told I have a 50/50 chance of having to take thyroid replacement meds.

okay. I got the results to my ultrasound and blood tests. My blood tests came back normal and the ultra sound showed two very small cysts that the doctor said I didnt need to worry about but that I just need to be seen every 6 months or so for an ultra sound to make sure that the cyst arent growing becasue they can cause symptoms or other problems. Whew what a scare!! Anyone else get told they were just going to watch it?

In November, my doctor found my cyst and said the same thing...have an ultrasound so they could find out the size ofthe cyst and let's keep an eye on it and come back in a few months. The next 2 months were horrible. I developed a hacking, dry cough and it got harder and harder to swallow. (My cyst was only 1.1 cm!!!) I went back 2 months later, like she said, and she felt it. She said that she didn't think there was any change and to come back in a few more months so we could keep and eye on it. I told her I wanted to do something else, just because I wasn't sure that it was nothing!!! I'm glad I did because with the biopsy they found the papilary carcinoma. It was easily treated and I no longer have it, but it never hurts to just be sure! I don't want to scare you, but I do want you to make sure you have all your bases covered! Good luck! :o)

I am a little concerned. I am having lots of throat pain. Can cysts cause throat pain?

Try not to be afraid I know how hard it is. Do what the doctors tell you and make sure you have a good doctor that treats thyroid on the regular!! I will be praying and keeping you in my thoughts

stupid question how do I know who treats the thyroid on a regular basis?

I did have the wait and see until I came to Florida. Blood test arn't really could indicater of cancer but is able to recognize your levels done properly. I would've diffently took the wait and see much longer if, I hadn't been pushed to remove my thyroid and even though my other lobe wasn't swollen I had that also removed man if I could've done things over never would I have done that. The problems I face today seem to be allot worse then before I said go ahead cut the damn thing out! It still worked and the cancer it had was very slow growing I could have had it for another 10 years without effect. Their are so many changes I have like glucoma believe me never in my wildest would I even think I could get that but its part of the overall picture. anyway wait and see isn't a bad idea at all to me.
