Hi, I am also recovering from a total thyroidectomy this week. I had surgery on one of my favorite days of the year - Valentine's Day. The Surgeon called yesterday and told me they did find cancer in both lobes of the thyroid and one of the lymph nodes. I was totally floored. Less than two months ago I was told the diagnosis for my visual impairment that I had known about for many years was now wrong and the new diagnosis was a disease that would cause complete blindness. I figured after news like that nothing else could go wrong for awhile. I guess God has other plans for me. I, too, have been told this type of cancer is very easy to cure, but it still doesn't make it any less difficult to take right now.

Thank you for responding to my post. It really helps to talk to people that know what you are going thru. I wasare in athe state of shockthe and aI little angry. When I find myself getting down I have to remember that God doesn't give is more than we can handle. I believe we will survive this to be able to help those who feel that they can't make it. Let's pray for each other.

Keep the positive attitude - I agree that we will see the otherside of this someday and be able to help others. But don't be ashamed of having sometime to grieve and be angry. It's just as healthy to come to term with those feelings as it is to stay upbeat. I had a really awful day yesterday and found myself on the floor of the bedroom crying, in pain, scared...and I took a few minutes to tell God exactly how I was feeling at the moment. It wasn't pretty. But I believe God wants us to talk to Him even when we're not in a good place. So hang in there and let loose when you need to.You are in my prayers. One year ago today, after a partial thyroidectomy to remove a 4cm mass, I was told I have thyroid cancer. Since they were unable to biopsy the mass during surgery, I had to go back 3 weeks later for a complete thyroidectomy. It's hard to believe it's been a year since those first couple of months dragged on so slowly. I never let myself go to "why me" and "what if", I just did what needed to be done to get rid of it and treat it.
I had about 3 months of a medication roller coaster while dr. tried to get the doseage right, during which my hair thinned out. Once the dose was right, I finally started losing weight and am down 30 pounds from one year ago.

All in all, it has not been as terrible as one would think having thyroid cancer and I am grateful to be here.
