Thyroid Cancer Support Group
Thyroid cancer is cancer of the thyroid gland. There are four forms: papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic. If you or anyone you know and love is affected by thyroid cancer, join this community to lean on the support and experiences of others.
One year ago today, after a partial thyroidectomy to remove a 4cm mass, I was told I have thyroid cancer. Since they were unable to biopsy the mass during surgery, I had to go back 3 weeks later for a complete thyroidectomy. It's hard to believe it's been a year since those first couple of months dragged on so slowly. I never let myself go to "why me" and "what if", I just did what needed to be done to get rid of it and treat it.
I had about 3 months of a medication roller coaster while dr. tried to get the doseage right, during which my hair thinned out. Once the dose was right, I finally started losing weight and am down 30 pounds from one year ago.
All in all, it has not been as terrible as one would think having thyroid cancer and I am grateful to be here.
