What is good news if you don't share it. My head hurts so bad and the joy in my heart outmatches it x10.
I couldn't talk the store down in price, but I knew that was a longshot. I was set to take her home and have since changed her name from the original Lala to the intended Delilah to Layla or Laila and will see where that settles. She will let us know.
She weights a whopping 6lbs and 3 years old, brindle brown, and her little ribs are showing. I posted a picture of her in my pictures, with my existing 11 lb black Snyper if you are interested. She has walked around my little townhouse at least 100 times now and is afraid to go up and down stairs or onto or off of my 8 inch high bed. She is timid but will come if you are patient so I wait. I've heard her bark once, and it's not very loud. She is okay to be picked up, but freaks while she is in the air so I'm thinking she is not used to being handled at all. She is house trained so BONUS!
I gave her peezles last night and she loved those and is going through those like candy. For those who don't know what they are, they are literally dried up bull penis' and are very hard and expensive, but I get them bulk rejects (so they are much cheaper) which are perfect for chihauhaus. These are excellent for teeth and will likely correct her dental issues.
After a couple of anxious hours I got her to finally eat and then her bum went up in the air and that little tail started to wag. So I brought out the little stuffed toys. My other dog started tugging on them and she didn't know what was going on, but she knew something exciting was happening and started dancing around. That broke the ice and that little tail hasn't stopped wagging.
She still paces around the house, inbetween chewing peezles, but that tail is wagging. I left this morning to drive my son to school as I took the day off and thought I'd treat him to a ride. When I came home, the greeting was such that you would think that I rose from the dead. I found out that she can dance on her hind legs.
Well guys. Yesterday, some of you were kind enough to give me kudos for adopting, but it is all purely selfish. This little girl has been in a puppymill for 3 years in Las Vegas and made it many many miles to another land, and then many more months of uncertainty to cross many hands, to finally wind up in my arms. I'm getting the chance to get her healthy and teach her how to climb stairs and to trust. My head hurts and I don't care. Last month I had to put down my beloved Julio after 14 years and today I literally have a new baby to love and worry about. This is life and I embrace it.
Thanks for letting me share it with you, my sisters in kind.

89FToday it is again another hot day but cooler then yesterday. Since this is August it is to be expected in my neck of the woods. All the grass is yellow and flowers are starting to go to seed. I need to water my garden but this time of the year I'm so over it, which is weird because all my plants have their fruit or veggies.Sandra, this time of year reminds me of your Dad and his toms. We'd...

My puppy mill rescue was estimated to be around 8 years old...long time stuck in a cage that was so small he couldn't stand up. Several teeth had to be pulled and his knees will never be right, but you'd never know how many years he lived that horrible life if you saw him now.
Everything is wonderfully new to the puppy mill dogs. I'll never forget watching Ricky as he tentatively stepped on grass for the first time...soon he rolling on his back, skinny legs flailing around in the air. Pure joy!
You realize that we'll want to hear about each new thing your new baby does. I have to watch myself as this is making me think I need another. No Cherry...no Cherry...3 is enough!
Hugs and barks!
Hope your headache gets better soon.

She is sleepin on my bed and is loving it. She doesn't move at all, during the night but when we wake up, she dances all over the bed like she can't get enough of the big fluffy surface.
Today she warmed up to everyone in the house. Still skiddish but definately learning that these people won't harm her and she is no longer cowering.
I took her for a walk to my mothers and she wouldn't even take the 3 steps to her apartment. We had to take the wheelchair ramp. In time, she will learn stairs.
My sister got a dog over a year ago now, and when she collected him from the womans home, the woman got him out side and said "in you get" pointing to the car and the dog got in and wasnt bothered at all about leaving this woman. It wasnt a nervous dog before, but since my sister has had this dog its such a nervous dog, it wines if she goes in the toilet for a few mins, it literally wont leave her side. I wonder if the dog is like this cos it picks up on my sisters nerves and depressive state. Or has it been damaged by removing it from the other woman?
(Its an adult dog)
The dog has separation anxiety and we had a Boston Terrier from 8 weeks old and for the next 14 years she could not stand if someone left the room. Nothing changed and I have had many dogs and trained them well, including the two I have now. We have had rescues before and my little Shadow was the only one that would not leave my side nor anyone in the family if we were together. You can tell from her name.......Shadow what she was like.

But, same with the other dog, when I come home, both dogs dance, then relax and settle. But both follow me when I leave the room and when I'm lying down with ice on my head, both are on top of me. (thank god they are small).
I think it's both. A dog I raised from a pup never showed signs of insecurities, but was a pack animal and liked my company. It was a little different.
Congratulations on your new member of your family. :-)
Have fun with your new baby.
