Some of you may remember my saga with my mother and sister. In short, I'm the third man out, plus my mother just won't accept me for the life that I have. I have agonized my whole life, and talked and begged her to just understand and accept who I am, but....to no avail. I'll save you all the details. And, well, it hurts to not be accepted because I am a good and compassionate person regardless of the turmoil in my lfie. I do, do the right thing and work hard to try to heal everyone.
Last year, my family fell apart in a catastrophic way and my long time boyfriend has moved out. However, this past 12 months, he and my sons have found a healing and forgiveness, plus he and I have spent endless hours doing the tough stuff to be able to move forward. We can now all sit together every weekend and everyone willingly gets together and enjoys Sunday dinner together as we all sit around like it used to be years ago. All the hard work has been done and we still have to continue working on it, but it feels so good to be at this place when last year it was so tragic.
But, my mother refuses to come over, keeps pulling up anger issues, guilt, tears and all manner of negativity my way. With that, she holds back my weaker father who has to live with her passive aggressive behavior.
So, last month, Kim, our Dixie, posted some words about Compassion hurting, etc. This passage held great thought for me and I bought the book that it came from and caused even deeper reflection and I I really did find peace within myself. I FINALLY resigned myself that there was nothing wrong with me, and that there was nothing that I could do about my mother. She would never accept me for the person that I was. In this book someone put to words what I needed to hear. Not affirmations, but rather, common sense.
So all month, I would visit my parents all week and go without caring what she thought. I really came and left, not caring and it was very liberating.
Yesterday, my mother called and said, (I paraphrase) , Angie, I've been thinking, life is short and I'd like to make amends with Jim. You and the boys have moved forward, and it is your life to live to choose as you will, so .....(at this point I didn't hear much after that........I was stuck at """""it is your life to choose as you will"""""""")
I lived my entire life to hear those words! Confirmation that my life was okay as it was! I had to sit down. Was I hearing right?! She was asking for an end to her yearlong boycott. All those times that I asked her over for Sunday dinner, she was now letting me know that she was now going to accept again like they used to come over every Sunday.
I thanked her and didn't gush or anything. Then we said goodbye and I hung up and sat and wondered what had changed. Well, my sister has been in Africa on vacation for the last month and a half so maybe she is lonely or doesn't have the dynamics that my sister offers. Or, maybe Christmas is coming and she realizes that I am it, or she sits alone with my father. Or, maybe she sees I don't care anymore. Or, maybe she sees that my sons don't have issues anymore and only she does. Or, maybe all of the above.
Do I think she has changed. Not at all. But, you don't yank a new sappling out while it is growing, so I will let this grow to be stronger and I'm feeling happy.
To me, this is a little miracle and I feel like I've won something for a change.
I just had to share this with you guys since you've been with me for all my crying during all the other stuff.

75FIt is really cooler today and this will trick us into believing it will become cooler. Our hot summer will keep on aftert this week. We will not be fooled. Sandra, one of our regrets is not being able to visit Great Britain and travel for two weeks when younger. As we age we just become slower and that really takes away from travel. Our retirement did the same thing with age 65 vs 67 also if...

Hiya,It's cloudy with the occasional show of sunshine. It was sooo hot last night, felt like the worst night this year, which is odd because it's been incredibly hot this summer for us. Maybe I just felt it last night.Still, it's all going to change now and the weather will shift. Of course there's going to be a few more nice days left this month and next, but essentially I guess the "hot...

This gives me hope that one day there will be a shift for me too, in my situation.
I wasn't active in the Hen House during these difficult times that you have had with your Mother, however, I am very happy to hear that she reached out to you. There is always HOPE, and my hope for you is that your Mother will accept you, love and support you the way she should have all along. It reminds me a little bit of my own situation with my Mother.
I will spare you all of the details, however, 4 yrs ago, my Mother, Stepfather and I had a HUGE falling out. I guess it had been coming for along time and I had put up with their crap for far too long. I had always been very close to my Mother, so her actions hurt me even more deeply because I never expected her to treat me the way that she was. I was sure she was influenced by my Stepfather, however, I could not understand why she wouldn't stand up to him. Instead, she seemed to condone his actions and at times, joined him in chastising me and putting me down. I had my 3rd back surgery several months after this falling out and I sent an email to my Mother letting her know about it, however, all I got in return was 2 whole sentences. She NEVER bothered to follow up to see how I was doing or to see if the surgery was a success (which it wasn't). This hurt me more than ever. When you factor in the fact that she made NO attempt to contact me over a 4 yr period, it continued to hurt....every single day. I would cry nearly every OTHER day. My kids are her ONLY grandkids so they were affected by all of this as well.
Anyway, I had been asking God to help ME to FORGIVE her because I had so much anger in my heart. After awhile, I felt that God heard my plea and urged me to forgive her and to call her on Thanksgiving Day. The urge to call her was so strong, I KNEW that God was right there beside me and I knew that at that point nothing was going to stop me that day. I did end up calling her. I had no idea if she would even receive my call or how she would treat me, however, we ended up talking for 3 hours. The call had gone unbelievingly well and at the end, she told me that she loved me.
She and my Stepfather are going to come to my kids Christmas concert next Tuesday. It will be the first time in 4 yrs that either I nor my kids have seen them. I am hoping that all will go well. I have no idea what the future has in store for my Mother and I, however, I am at PEACE now because I found FORGIVENESS in my heart. God lifted that burden from me and that is really all I wanted. No more tears or anger. I am optimistic that we will at least be friends but we'll just see how it goes.
Sorry so long, but I wanted you share my story with you in hopes that it will offer some HOPE for your situation. Just take it one day at a time with your Mother. Continue being yourself, and hopefully, you will finally receive the acceptance that you have been wanting from her all along.
Good luck to you and God Bless!

Angela I am so happy for you that your mom reached out to you:)
Hugs
Angela, I hoped for years that my Mom would acknowledge all the good in me.....but that never happened until now, as she is getting older. It makes me sad and happy at the same time that she is trying. But it is really hard to forget when she didn't. I was shocked the first time she actually said, "I love you." And right before my Dad died, he said it.......I love you. Why couldn't I have heard it so many years ago???
So I will not let another day go by without telling my dear friends and family how much I love them.
I love you my Dear Hen's!!
