I have another BBQ to go to today...my cousins on my moms side of the family. 5:00 this afternoon.
BTW does anyone have problems with your towels getting smelly or your dish rags getting smelly? I do and I have been reading up on it. You can get rid of the smell by washing them in very hot water with only a cup of vinegar...no detergent. When it is done washing wash the load again in very hot water with a 1/2 cup of baking soda only. They come out smelling super fresh and very obsorbant again!!! I did this all day long yesterday oh my towels smell soooo good again!!!
The cience behind the smelly towels is that if you use fabric softener a, which I do, the fabric softener leaves behind build up on the fabric whic bacteria feed on. This build up also makes your towels less obsorbant. And of course the build up and bacteria is what makes your towels smell bad. The vinegar strips the fabric softener away.
If you continue to use fabric softener you will have to repeat the method of stripping by washing as described above occasionally to get them smelling fresh again OR you can do away with fabric softener altogether and use vinegar as a natural fabric softener. Use a 1/2 cup in the rinse cycle. If you are like me and can't remember to add it at the right time...Dawny as dispenser balls you can add at the beginning of the wash that will disperse at the right time. If static electricity is a problem add two to three rolled up balls of tin foil to your dryer with your laundry...no static.
No one else may need this info but I thought I would put it out there just in case. I sure love the way my towels smell now!!! Super fresh!! And I'm doing away with fabric softeners. O and I made some home made laundry detergent ...averages about a $1 a quart and you use 1 Tbs. Per load. Was super super super easy to make! If anyone is interested in the recipe let me know and I will post it. I actually have two recipes I can post. One has oxy clean in it. I made the one without oxy clean. The one I made has felsnapa soap, washing soda and mule team in it. And it is a liquid form. The other recipe is a powdered form.
Another one I read on getting white socks whiter is to add 1/2 cup of baking soda with your normal amt. of detergent to the water...add socks and let soak for one hour then wash. I haven't tried this one yet so can't tell u if it works or not. Plan on trying it today.
Going to washing socks and my sheets today.:) and do my floors! They really need it. And my kitchen is in a mess...my son was doing experiments yesterday. I made him do the dishes but it's still a mess in there.

The weather, GRRR its been real hot and sunny for most of the week and now the weekend is here..... Its been coming over really grey and cloudy and breezy occasionally raining. Table will have to wait until tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Ive been in the attic to try and tidy it up, but its everyone elses stuff that i cant go through and throw out (as much as i'd like to!)
Just been grocery shopping this morning as we didnt go friday, we was too tired.
Dix, I dont actually put softener in my towels as i like them slightly rough lol. But i was thinking... putting vinegar in, doesnt that make them smell of vinegar? Or do you not get a smell from white vinegar?
As for dish clothes, we use J clothes and i chuck them in the wash and we us a clean one every day.
I found a recipe for laundry detergent on pinterest a while ago, but i couldnt find an ingredient that was required, so i gave up on the idea, i would love to make my own detergent.
Post yours it may be different to the one i found .

Take a half a bar of Fels Naptha soap and cut it up into small chunks, put them into a quart jar. Add 1-1/2 cups of boiling water to the jar, put the lid on it and leave it over night or even several days...whenever you get around to getting back to it to finish making it.
The next day or when you have time, take a butter knife and loosen the soap from the bottom of the jar. Add 1/2 cup of borax ( mule team) and a 1/2 cup washing soda (not baking soda) to the jar. Add enough hot water to bring it level to the shoulder of the mason jar.
Make sure to while off the top of the jar and make sure it is dry then set your rubber gasket and blade of your blender on top of the jar. If there is anything wet or soap on top of the jar the instructions say it will eat up your gasket. Now set it on the blender and blen til it is the consistency of mayonnaise.
Remove from blender. Keep lid on jar when not using. Use 1 Tbs. Per load of laundry.

THE DRY VERSION
1 -4pound box of borax
1 -4 pound box of baking soda
1- 3 pound box of oxy clean
2 bars of sote soap or 2 bars of Fels Naptha soap. You will need to finely grate these.
1- 3 pound box of washing soda
1-2 bottles of Purex crystal fabric softeners
Just mix all this together. Instructions say use 1 to 2 tablespoons per load.
After what I read about fabric softeners I don't think I will make this version but thought I would add it in case someone wants it. I guess you could leave the fabric softener out.
