The Financial Crisis Support Group
This community is dedicated to discussing the financial crisis of 2007-2008, which has had a worldwide impact on wealth, jobs and personal security. Our hope is that this community will focus on positive thoughts, real advice for adjusting your expenses and investments based on these changes, and support for one another as we go through this painful period.
I think the really sad thing is that when we all curtail our spending, it's going to hurt someone else -- merchants and their employees, wait staff, handymen. It's a vicious cycle.
Face we all need to discipline ourselves!! This is a total wakeup call..
Many people have put themselves in tough situations, but many more have just been thrown into a bad time. Jobs disappear and prices go up.
It is a good time to learn what is necessary in our lives and what is fluff. Cut back on the fluff and and least you won't have to worry about those things.
Just paying our regular bills has become hard. My husband has been taken out of work due to a disability after surgery. He doesn't have any disability pay from work and doesn't qualify for SSI until a year has passed. We are trying to live on my much smaller pay check until then.
We turn off all lights when not in use. No more fun trips out just because. We search for good deals to stretch our food budget. We cut back on meats and milk and extras. I bake more for the kids snacks.
It's hard, but we will get through it. We have been here before and I'm sure we will be here again. As a family, we know how keep plowing forward.

However, this is a huge WAKE up call and it is a bit scary. However, I think people shouldn't panic as we see people doing so, with the stock market going all over the place. We just need to sit back, be careful, relax as much as we can. Be smart as we can and not live beyond our means! Credit cards and the "American Dream" got us into a bit of this mess unfortunately.
I think it something we can all work on changing and we will all get through it.
I am a single mother with 3 children, and l took in a homeless teenager. Only one income, so i have to be very frivilous.
I dont buy processed foods that much, we dont have luxury foods, like biscuits (cookies to you americans)
i turn off the lights at night, to limit my electricity bills, same for gas, same for heating
I have unfortunately had to cancel a lot of insurance policies that hopefully i wont need.
I sell my second hand items on ebay, for a little extra income.
I am in Australia, food has gone up, petrol has gone up , and as most things are imported into this country , possibly everything has gone up
I wish everyone well in this crisis!! Hopefully it will not last too long!
