I'm a single mom, lost my old job two years ago and my new job pays half of what I made two years ago and to top that I spend 500.00 a month on gas commuting. I need to start over. I have not paid a bill in two years. I am so tired of money problems. My question, does anyone live or work near Sacramento California and know about a bankruptcy group, lawyer, legal advice? I need to take this step for my peace of mind. At least I won't have collection agencies calling anymore. Please let me know if any of you have filed for bankruptcy and the steps you took.

Type "banktrupcy +your zip code" in yahoo or google search engine. You'll see quite a few of them. Ask about their pricing. If they don't want to disclose theirs price ranges, saying its all depends on a case, don't go. Those ones will try to get maximum possible out of you. Initial consultation is free. So, you can actually interview at least couple of them. That is what I did, when filed my first ch7 BK.

yes, it's a pretty cruel joke that they expect people who are filing for bankruptcy to pay 1k for it. Tried to get with LegalAid, a legal service for poor people in Ohio, and they actually don't provide services for bankruptcy believe it or not. Maybe there is something similar that can help you.

I actually hired a lawyer who sent me a letter in the mail. Partially out of gratitude, because thanks to his letter I knew not to pick up the certified letter that arrived the next day lol. Free consultation, and I interviewed a few; he seemed to be the least apathetic. Lots of apathetic bankruptcy lawyers out there apparently. Try to find one who gives a damn.
