Tuesday about 2 p.m. I found my husband not breathing on our patio. He had been working in the yard right before.
I tried to give him CPR and chest compressions, and when the paramedics arrived they said it was too late to revive him. He was 68 and in pretty darn good health.
I am broken and frozen. So surprising to everyone who knew him.
He loved our life in our retirement home, each and every day. He only had three and a half years here, and I so wish it was more.
Please keep me in your thoughts. I hardly know how to go on.
Wow ArmyMom, big step for that For Sale sign to go up in the yard! Will you move far away? It's funny how when push comes to shove, stuff is just stuff. Now, connections to people are my most important and precious "stuff" and I'm not surprised. I meet with the grief counselor again Monday March 21. She advised two weeks ago to wait to join a grief support group and I will follow her lead. I joined the DS Widow and Widowers group, and that has been very helpful.
Thank you bc55 for your kind words, along with everybody else's thoughts. Yes, the shock of finding my husband was surreal and probably still is. Wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, as the saying goes...
I hope The Den goes on for all of us close, close friends. It's very nice.
The Den is an awesome place, built and maintained by some pretty awesome people!!! :)
As with so many things in life....there is an ebb and flow...I am discovering it takes the wisdom of age and hard knocks to recognize the total lack of control we so desperately cling to. We so arrogantly proclaimed our successful dominance over fate and circumstance. I have to chuckle out loud when I think of just how delusional I was until "IT" happened a few years ago. Losing everything you just ASSUMED would always "Be there"....well, its a hard knock. One that takes the will to breathe away...but breathe we do. Breathing is another total lack of control over thing we have to accept and live in peace with.
Sometimes I wonder If I am the only one that wasn't aware of these simple truths.....but thats just me....I never have figured out if I am a step ahead or a step behind everyone else! Now there's a seductive rabbit hole.....wonderland awaits! LOL Sorry..,,,I am babbling tonight!
Mystic...so relieved to know you have found some help and support systems. Breathe Babe!
