We Have So Much... But Are We Happy ?
Life...
For many of us it's so complicated.
Everyone has their own perspective towards life.
Life begins with love, demands love and always searches for love; so beautiful, so simple, even though so hard for us to understand.
Crawling inside the boundary of 4 walls, surrounded by father, mother, other family members, how happy we were.
How excited we used to be watching cartoons, receiving toys, eating chocolate and so on.
With a wider boundary of life, more friends around us, we are suppose to be even happier !
But are we really happy ??
Previously before we developed systems of education, good means of transportation, communication, etc., we were happy.
But now, with all this improvement, why can't we be happy ??
We have the ability and technology to reach outer space... yet we can't develop a technology to bring a smile to someone's face.
Necessities and wants drove us towards all these discoveries and led to luxury.
These are the same wants that when in extreme, became desire... unlimited desire and we are drowning in it.
We are drowning - desiring more love, more luxury, more comfort, more success.
We have gained vast knowledge though we fail to understand the simple truth of life:
Life is a journey and we have to accept everything that comes our way.
The only way to smile is to accept what we are and what we have....never running and lamenting about what we don't have.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
anyway, the name of the cartoon was "Advanced and Be Mechanized"
i love this phrase, because it's true!
Big Daddy's speech in the basement to his Son was very portent for me. He talked about hating "Mendacity". I didn't know what that was until he explained it...but what stuck in my mind was his disdain for people who never asked more of life or themselves, they merely existed from day to day without any intentions of having adventures or experiencing life and personal growth. I guess I relate to that to this day, probably will from now on! Mendacity, its such a waste of so many possibilites and opportunities! Life is for the Living! We are surrounded by the walking dead, and I don't mean the Zombie kind!
lol!
But recently I have started to accept that life sucks and so now that I have accepted that I think I am much more happier.
I guess I could say I am content now. And I am not really sure what happiness is. I know what unhappiness is; and sadness, grief, anger and fear is, but the concept of “happiness” eludes me.
When something nice happens to me and I remember to appreciate it and be happy about it - that makes me happy.
I am no longer begrudging other’s happiness and feel truly happy for them when something good happens to them, I think to myself I must be truly happy too. But I don’t know.
The thing is that I don’t feel happy. I mean I am not always laughing but I laugh much more easily now – more than I used to. So I would say I am mostly content.
I love every little simple thing I an do during the day. Washing dishes, cooking a meal, thinking of others in prayer, catching up with friends here, watching my favorite old western on TV, playing with my Maggie.
I am happy.
My happiest times are spent outside in the garden.
I am like kutani...... leave me alone... let me be. That is happiness for me.
You mentioned pain and mentioned that if you can get it under control you happy about everything. I am with you completely. If I am not in serious pain and not too weak I love doing everything. Love my garden, love cooking, delighted to buy and prepare gifts. Take time to do it thoroughly, enjoy weekly shopping - day out of the house, my favourite lunch tuna sushi and decaf latte. Small and big projects around the house. And do not get me started on my favourite books, movies and TV series! There are advantages of not being well. I have a luxury to take my time to enjoy doing things. And when I am not so well I concentrate of getting better and it needs my full attention. So as long as I function and take care of all my responsibilities I am very happy
I went for about 8 years where I could barely stand up ... it just took my breath away to do anything so now I am just happy, like you say!
And like you say as long as I can function and take care of my responsibilities I am very happy!
(((hugs)))
Definition: in high spirits; satisfied
The synonyms range from "can't complain" to "elated" and "joyous".
Maybe describing "happy" is the same as describing "beauty". The meaning is different to each individual. To be "happy" could mean something as simple as "not being unhappy" ??
I can't say I'm happy with my life right now but I am not unhappy either. I'm content. The major storms are over (for now) and the seas are calm. I'm still missing the "thing" that brings joy but I'm still ok.
I too have 24/7 pain. I still function but am limited to many activities that I used to enjoy. I was depressed about this for a long time but at some point you just stop fighting it and accept your limitations. Do what you can. You leave what you can't. Another... "it is what it is" situation.
One thing about going thru all this is that it's taught me to slow down and appreciate and enjoy the simple things in life. Things that you miss when you fly thru life so fast you pass them by and don't even notice them. The little things in life really can make you happy... if you just notice them!
I was depressed too and when I started taking something for it, and got help, my happiness factor increased.
One thing I know... if our pain isn't managed then it is hard to be happy. For me anyway.
I am glad you enjoy the simple things in life. They are the best, I say. :-)
But I HAVE suffered from the terrible, debilitating pain of depression. And am grateful to have survived it.
I wish there were pat answers about how to recover. Just want to send a hug out to anyone who is suffering from this invisible pain.
