Hi all
The reason for the pancakes yesterday was because it was Shrove Tuesday. Today is Ash Wednesday, not that i fast or anything.
Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday, Anglo Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven” (absolved from their sins). A bell would be rung to call people to confession. This came to be called the “Pancake Bell” and is still rung today. Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast and pancakes are the perfect way of using up these ingredients, thats if you fast.
Ive had a hoover up downstairs and mopped the kitchen floor. Thats it for me today : )
Lisa, how nice to see your grandchildren everyday for next couple of weeks. Do you pick them up at the end of the day?
serenity, its good to hear your mom is settled back in her appartment. Did you get your card sorted? Wow that is worrying.
Joanne, when dad goes i'm going to be like you and trying every single option there is in the lounge for change. I dont know about you but i like to "try it" before i make up my mind. Weve done that in our bedroom, trying different options for the bed etc.
Toni, I hope your eyes feel a lot better very soon.
Weve got a damp drizzle of a day.
Its lunch time so i'm off to find something to eat.

It's going to get hotter here with Thursday being the hottest. It's noon and 75f feels more like 80 or more.I've been cleaning up the deck in this morning and cleaning the windows outside. Then I cut up a pallet in half, I've decided to call it quits now because I went a bit light headed. Joanne, some drugs we take have an effect on us in the heat, I know a couple of mine do, maybe yours...

Thanks for explaining the connection to shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Interesting. Being in the south I think of Fat Tuesday. I don’t fast either.
I’m going to a seminar today and invited Claire, so I’ll pick her up soon. Warm and cloudy today. I’ll go by the bank to pick up a new card.
Moonie, I have a lot to still buy. Only thing in bedroom is a bed!
Gotta run but hugs n hope for a happy hump day!
Sandra-I can rearrange a room many times before I settle on furniture, pictures, TV permanent placement. A wall can be repainted many times as I buy the little testers. Just this week I did this with the LR as the TV is on the wall and while sitting it suddenly occurred to me the TV can be placed on a different wall because we have a 2 seat loveseat and chair in place of the huge sofa we had before. Now I have a solution.
Serenity-It is a long process to get a new place in order and funds. Looking for good deals ( FB marketplace ) is both exciting and frustrating. The decision on where to spend the funds is also exhausting. In my area FB Marketplace has many free or low cost items.
Today is Pantry day and one of the women that has three children will finally have a place to live after 3 years of sleeping in friends living rooms or at times her van. She has a section 8 voucher but not enough landlords accept them anymore. It's a nightmare. Her husband was a hit and run victim while changing a flat tire for someone on the side of the road. Insurance ran out and her job didn't pay enough and without any family it's been difficult. She's just one of thousands in her situation as the homeless increase. Every person that came into the library I'd ask to keep a lookout for a landlord that would accept Section 8 and it finally worked, someone's Grandma died and they will accept the family. The nice caveat is the Mom can paint or do whatever she wants and I have oodles of paint to donate along with dishes and fabric.
We don't do the pancakes here, it's either bread or buns. I don't fast.
Hope Toni's eyes are better, Nonie and Carly hope to see you.
PEACE
Serenity have fun at the seminar. Thankfully I'm in the same front you are. No doubt you'll find the bed at the bargain. You are the thrift gal!
Moonie our homeless situation is serious and more housing is called for. They're discussing new ones here to replace the old but it won't help those waiting. 2 years is just the beginning of the waiting list. I didn't dare say that when Serenity was waiting.
I'm writing this and then putting some sunglasses on. This doctor for some reason gave me oral antibiotics. I just keep putting eye drops in.
I did go to the store yesterday, I can get in and out fairly quickly. It's a small store. I got what I was going to get this round for the pantry, but kept it small. I came home and left theirs in the car, put mine away decided since it was going to warm up today I better take it on over there. I had some things I worried about getting hot. I left and pulled out and a man honked, I just pulled out iright n front of him and hadn't seen him. I went on ahead to drop it off and they were closed for a Dr appointment, ugh. That meant carrying it all in except the noodles and other boxed things. I'm afraid to drive now. Guess I can take it next week it's just the last time they were almost out of everything. They should do it like Moonie and company does.
I'll get better, things always do. Thanks ♡
Peace love harmony xoxo
My daughter has been asking me to go up and spend a couple days at her place. With the pipes burst I didn't want to leave Drew to deal with it all on his own so I put it off. Maybe this weekend I'll tell her to come and get me. I miss the kids. It feels like I haven't seen them since Christmas and it probably has been that long. And her daughter wasn't here then as she was at her dad's. I'll get there soon.
Sandra - I only drop the kids off in the morning as their parents have to be at work before the center opens. Their mom picks them up when she gets off work. I don't do pancakes on pancake Tuesday but it is called that here too. I also don't fast though I've thought about it.
Toni - glad you didn't get run into today. Might be a good idea not to drive too much until your eyes are better. We need you! Get better quickly.
As for the holiday it just worked out that our provincial holiday was on the first day of the Canada Winter Games. They are held each year in a different province. Athletes and teams from across Canada come together to compete and often they are the ones who get into the Olympics. There are also the Canada Summer Games which were here about 13 years ago before my back got so bad. I actually volunteered at that one. Quite an experience.
Serenity - wow, Tokyo! You just never know where the hackers are going to show up. Hope you don't have any trouble getting a new card. Did they get any money? I sure hope not. Hope you enjoyed your seminar today. I miss going to things like that.
Joanne, how is your room redecorating going? I've been thinking about painting over some of the wallpaper here but I need to glue down some curled or lifted edges first at least. So nice how you are able to help people through the pantry. You never cease to amaze me!
Carly and Lavender, I hope you make it in. Hi anyway
Supper is on. Just frozen pizza tonight but it'll do the job. Hugs everyone,
Nonie
Here in the U.S. people get crazy and celebrate with Mardi Gras aka Fat Tuesday. There is way too much drinking and over eating.
I never did the fasting, just only giving things up for Lent and not having meat on Friday. All my years growing up we never had meat on Friday not just during Lent. But Pancakes do sound good. I wonder if it is the same as here. Always wondering. :-)
Serenity, just only having a bed in your new place would be fine by me. Everything else will come together soon I am sure.
I hope you and Claire enjoyed your seminar. What was it about? Sorry if I missed what you told us about it.
Moonie, so sorry about your friends from the Pantry. But it sounds like you are doing such a wonderful job there.
Toni, do you think that maybe you should not be driving at all? I hope your antibiotics help.
You must come to the cave. There is no driving and no sunlight. It is a safe place. But I do need to know what you like to eat.....as long as it is not meat today. It is Ash Wednesday after all.
It was my grandson's first Ash Wednesday. Christie sent me a pic and he was beaming with a big smile.
Lisa, that sounds soooo cold! Good that you managed to get through it before it comes again.
I hope that you can get a visit with your Daughter. You are so lucky that she wants you to come for a visit. Sometimes with families that doesn't happen that often.
I know that I missed you all last night. My goodness, when you miss one night you miss a lot.
Thank you all for asking about Mike and his travel's home. He did finally make it safe and sound.
Sending much love and hugs to all.
xoxo
