I feel that acts like this are directed toward Christians.Shame. I remember watching the gladiator movies Where if you wouldn't denounce that you were a christian you were fed to the lions. I feel in a sense that it happening now. Give it a few more years and I am sure they will have lions dens.

I wouldn't compare getting smacked by a by law officer with being fed to lions, but if they were handing water out for free why would they need a vendor's permit?

i wondered that too

i would assume to track the product should people get sick
accountability
and of course
paying for the privilege (permit)

One guy was arrested for holding a bible study in his house. Apparently he needed a permit. I think in today's world religion is becoming very anti.

The article states that the city official was wrong and that the lady would get a written apology.

I've handed out free water myself. My kids and I did it one year on a really hot 100+ day.

I don't think it was a "Christian" issue. More like a poorly trained city official issue.

The article explained the vending code. Giving items to passersby is not violating the vending code. Sounds like the city official was way out of line. I'm not positive that this is a religious rights issue but it sure is a freedom to do something nice without a government thug getting in your face issue.

@Compost. Agreed. But sometimes people do make mistakes. Maybe they were just going down a line of vendors and checking for permits.

I think if I buy myself a copy of the Koran, I might color the pages with crayon ( bright colors only)
can I get in trouble with the Allah-lala's for that?

Allah is God, the same God as in the Bible, but I'm not sure how God feels about colouring in the Bible, or the Koran...and plus, well, I love art supplies so what do I know?

I somehow think God would find colouring playful and creative, if we're all made in his image.
