I recently heard a great 2007 song the other day, "Falling Slowly" because it popped up in my newsfeed, accompanied by the sad news that the male singer, Glen Hansard, just died in a motorcycle accident. I learned that the song won an award and was featured in an indie movie called Once. I just watched it, and it's really good. They made it in 3 weeks on a $100,000 budget. It's streaming on...

They're giving us more of an understanding about the situation with Maddie/Marcus than with Amy/Rose. I wish we were learning about both at the same pace though because I feel like Marcus is asserting himself quickly while Rose is nearly as much a mystery as Amy in and of herself is. Like I feel like we know more about Maddie and she's only 9! If Shepherd himself is usually the one who brings the other intruders out via their triggers, then perhaps Amy/Rose meant Jack was her shepherd because he gave her something that triggered Rose to come out...?
So... Gary has figured out at least that there is a connection between his client, Todd Crane, Marcus Fox, and Amy (side note: did you ever watch the BBC show "In The Flesh"? Because there was a character named Amy Dyer on that show too... and it made me laugh when Gary noted Amy Whelan's maiden name was Dyer...). It's a start. I don't get why then Jack found it odd that Amy was spotted at the guy's house when they were trying to see what was going on in there - and seriously, why close the curtains AFTER rather than BEFORE doing something secretive? - clearly that was the "ceremony" they perform to remove the soul from the body and attach it to an object for the trigger later (Shepherd held some sort of trinket in front of the guy at one point). It appeared that the guy was wrapped up like a mummy with just his face still exposed and then they did their little ceremony and held him down and finished the job because his face was covered in the end.
I knew that poor Bill Anderson was going to be a sitting duck in that restaurant - you just had to know Shepherd would come in and shoot him before he told Jack and Gary too much. What I found interesting was that it was Rose telling Shepherd to deal with Bill in the first place... she's quite high ranking in this organization I take it... Oh and I have no idea what Rose's trigger was. I think it was mentioned in that person's post on IMDB but I can't remember what they had said about it specifically... something he gave her for her birthday maybe?
So Maddie is fighting Marcus after all, but she can't remember details about her life anymore without having certain things to remind her, so I guess that means he's winning? I tell you what, that girl is a pretty good actress for being able to go from playing an average 9 year old kid to being an old man trapped in that child's body who has a less than savory past (and quite a mouth on him to boot). Her version of Marcus is far more terrifying than the old man who plays his previous incarnation.
Did you catch the previews for the next episode? It appears Gary may be more aware of what Bill was up to than he's told Jack... I still think that Gary can't be entirely trusted because he's not all that upfront with Jack...
So interesting developments this week... what did you think of it?
I knew Bill Anderson would be a sitting duck too! They should have met somewhere less public although Shepherd probably would have found them anyway! Yes, Rose is very high ranking in the Qui Reverti.
I'm glad that Maddie is fighting Marcus! It must be horrible knowing he's in there! I agree Marcus is winning. Maybe the longer Marcus is in control the less of Maddie there will be until she's gone completely. Yes the actress who plays Maddie is phenomenal! She can go so quickly back and forth between Maddie and Marcus. Can also play Marcus playing Maddie to get what he wants!
I never see the previews for the upcoming episodes because I download the episodes with the commercials cut out.
I really enjoyed this episode! I just watched it today!
Shepherd was definitely going to find them because he was figuring out the code Jack read off when he called the radio station to get in touch with Bill - so no matter where they went Shepherd would find them. But you would think a guy on the run would have insisted on going somewhere else once they met up or at least would insist on having his back to the wall so he'd be able to see the door - if he saw Shepherd come in right away, he could've darted out through the kitchen or ducked under the table or something.
You didn't see the preview but what they showed made it seem like Gary may have seen what Bill was up to with that "ghost machine" - or at least someone saw something, they flash a lot on the screen in a short bit of time so I may have mixed up two images there!
As for In The Flesh - last I heard BBC has yet to decide on it. It was airing on BBC3 in the UK but that channel's going into a solely online format as of like this month or next month so the shows that were on the network will either be moved to the online format or are getting bumped up to BBC2 or BBC1. They can't seem to decide whether In The Flesh should get bumped to BBC2 or just go online (my guess is they're weighing cost versus viewership and the second series didn't garner the same ratings as the first for them so I'm betting that's where the hang up is). Either way, should it get a third run in the UK be it online or on BBC2, it would be shown on BBCAmerica. Bigger question to me is that if it does return, will Emmett Scanlan be able to return as Simon since he's now committed to NBC's Constantine - assuming that does well enough to get a full season or more it could eat up his availability and surely with Simon saying he was staying for Keiran at the end of the second season, his character would need to still be there (plus I'd be bummed if he wasn't since I love him!).
I really liked all of the characters on In The Flesh especially Simon, Kieran and Amy Dyer.
I knew Gary had something he wasn't telling Jack (from those preview clips you don't get to see). If being near Bill's ghost machine made Gary suddenly able to see his daughter is possessed by an intruder well after his encounter with the machine, then surely Gary can see intruders in anyone who is possessed by one, right?
One thing I am confused about regarding Frank and Richard - both being "shepherds" and that being their last name but they aren't necessarily related - their exchange when Frank asked Richard whether he brought Marcus back, did you get the impression they've both been around for a long time too? I mean, when Richard killed Oz he told him "we don't die but you do" or something like that, so clearly he's indicating he's an intruder himself, right?!
The struggle between Maddie and Marcus makes more sense with Richard's explanation but it still seems Marcus has quite a bit of control considering he killed that guy and fought off Richard long enough to escape with his car.
Back to Gary for a sec - I'm glad they finally tied in the opening scene when he suggested to Jack that Donna, the girl from high school that killed herself, was the intruder in his infant daughter. But why would she comeback so much later? I would've thought these qui reverti people would be attaching to the next nearest newborn they could rather than years later... and how did she attach to his newborn? Was her spirit attached to the suicide note she sent him? That bit was a little confusing. But you know, I was sort of buying into it when he suggested how it would explain so much about schizophrenia and other mental disorders...
Hey, when Jack was talking to Amy on the phone and claimed to be staying at the Soleil, did he describe the room Gary was in? And if so, was that on purpose or by accident? And would that explain why Rose has parked herself in the room across the hall from him?
I assume Gary can see those who are possessed by an intruder because of being exposed to the Ghost Machine.
Yes, I think that Frank and Richard have been around for a long time. I'm not sure why Donna came back so much later. Didn't Richard say that since Marcus went into a nine year old he had less control. You would think that he would have more control over a newborn or a young girl than an adult or teen who could fight back more. The only issue being it would be frustrating for an Intruder to not be able to be communicate.
Yes Jack did describe the Room he was in at The Soleil. I think it was on accident and Rose used that information to be in a room right across from him to keep an eye on him.
From what I've gathered, it seems the Qui Reverti attach to a new body at birth but don't come forward until later, on a birthday that is a multiple of 9 (like in Amy's case it was her 36th; Donna it was her 18th; Madison it was her 9th...side note: why is it always women who are possessed by Qui Reverti and not men? At least not so far that we've seen, even when the spirit is male, unless the Shepherds are also among them but we're still unclear there). So the spirit of Rose was in Amy from birth but didn't take over until Amy turned 36. Marcus wasn't supposed to come forward so soon; had he waited until Madison was say 18 or 27 he would've had more control over her - at least that's how I took that conversation. That would explain too why Gary saw Donna within his daughter - it was only due to the effects of the ghost machine on him that he could, otherwise Donna would stay dormant within his daughter until much later and then come out.
I don't know about the age situation if it's a choice or not either. I mean, we know there is a significance to the multiples of 9 but not particularly why some are brought back sooner than others. In Marcus' case, I think it was accidental that Madison happened to come across the sand dollar at the time of her 9th birthday and it brought Marcus forth, otherwise he wouldn't have had the window until later. In his case, I think he was anxious to get back out and the opportunity presented versus purposely coming forward. Then again, Madison's encounter on the beach with Richard seemed to indicate he may have been looking to bring Marcus out at that time anyway but was beaten to the punch. Perhaps each Qui Reverti designates what age they want to come back at? I'd think most would prefer 18 but then again, if they are stronger the longer they wait maybe they would prefer to hold out for 27 or 36. I would think 45 would be too long to wait because they'd want to have as much time as possible in the new body but who knows. I hope they give more context to the age situation soon too. Perhaps they will; there is an upcoming episode in which Rose will confront Jack according to the episode descriptions so maybe she'll give more explanation to the situation in that confrontation.
Anyway, so this past week's episode was a hum dinger, eh?!
First off, Jack's neighbors are also Reverti it appears and Rose found her past life love in that Asian guy so clearly they do attach to men too. At least we resolved that question!
Before the neighbors showed up, when Jack found the books and trigger tokens I thought he was starting to piece things together and yet he still seemed rather confused when Rose arrived and started explaining it all to him. I was surprised by how much she did share with him because you would think she would feel like she owes him no explanation and would just have him killed and end of story. So she's had multiple lives based on the number of triggers she had and the stories she told about them but what I don't get is why she had two of the books - one in Russian and the other in Hebrew, right? - because I would think seeing how Rose speaks English no accent or anything (I mean, there is a difference between when Amy would speak versus Rose but when Rose speaks there isn't any undertone of an accent or even different wordage in the way someone who is from a different country but speaks English might use different terms or phrases or have a different meaning for words they use) wouldn't Rose have done fine with a book in English then? Why need two? It's not like she would've kept one from a previous life either...
Were you disturbed by the notion that Rose purposely aborted Amy and Jack's baby because she didn't want to be pregnant? I was confused by the flashback because it looked like Amy was bleeding from her stomach and if that was the case then it wasn't like she just had a miscarriage, she would've had to have done something to herself like stabbed herself in the stomach for that blood to have come from her stomach. Plus, in the flashback there was no sign of a baby she was merely asking Jack to help her and there was blood on her and the floor (seemed like an awful lot too, if she had lost that much blood, how was she even conscious?) but in the end, when Jack dug up the little corpse after Rose indicated she buried it so Jack could be reunited with that soul at some other point in time even though Jack thought he and Amy scattered the ashes, that seemed like a pretty large fetus considering Amy didn't really look like she was pregnant and all that. The imagery just didn't match the story for me; but maybe I'm nitpicking or they figured people would be too disturbed to really take notice.
What else happened... Oh, Rose reuniting with her old love - I get the impression that even though she said to him that because he wasn't initiated properly and she went against the rules to bring him back that his oddness had nothing to do with that ultimately and perhaps he will reject her in the end... it seems like poetic justice given that Rose has pushed Jack aside and told him Amy's gone to sleep and she's not coming back... Rose may think she's found Bix and he's back for good but maybe he's not or maybe because she didn't do it the proper way he will not be his old self.
What did you think of this week's show? And did I forget something from this episode worth mentioning?
I think maybe Rose explained everything to Jack so that he would understand that Amy is no longer dominant, that Rose has almost completely taken over. Rose just wants Jack to leave her alone and for him to stop snooping into the Qui Reverti affairs. I'm not sure why there are several books either. The purpose of the book seems to be to explain the idea of having multiple lives that Death is a beginning not an end. Maybe it's not only to explain it to the Intruder but also to the host who may speak another language. I'm not sure how they make it so that triggers bring forth an Intruder. Also Shepherd mentioned something about Rose being part of the 9s if she tries to bring back someone from one of her former lives. Aren't they are 9s?
Yes, I found the idea that Rose purposely aborted the baby because she didn't want to have a baby, From the amount of blood I think she cut the baby out. I'm not sure where the baby's body was either when Jack came in. I'm not sure how Amy was conscious either. It must have been by sheer force of will. The fetus did seem very big but there are people who don't look pregnant right away so it's not too far fetched for the fetus to be bigger. I think they made it bigger to show that it was a baby. It was heart wrenching to see Jack curled up on the ground with the baby! He doesn't want to accept that Amy is gone even though when he thinks back there are incidents that seem to confirm what Rose said about Amy being gone. Especially when she said that the body is a box.
You didn't forget to mention anything. I wonder where Madison/ Marcus are right now?
