I dvr'ed the pilot and will watch it sometime during the week. Been looking forward to this show starting since I first heard about it so I hope it's good!

Okay, I watched the first episode but I'm not sure I got anything that happened in it!

I'm still going to dvr the second episode and see if I understand more of what's happening - I mean, I get certain people aren't quite themselves and it seems something happens to them around their birthdays (so probably not a good thing for me to have started watching this show just before my own coming up!) and they're what - taken over, so to speak, by another... spirit?

And the FBI guy is one of them or is he trying to hunt them down? At first I thought he was hunting them down but then I thought he's one of them and he's hunting down anyone stopping them since he killed that guy who was apparently investigating it.

It took me a few beats to get that the girl at the beginning who apparently was also one of them was looking at a yearbook that contained the high school pics of John Simm's character and the other lawyer guy that showed up to talk to him at his house that he used to know (from school obviously). That whole exchange seemed weird too. Who am I kidding the whole show was weird. I mean it was intriguing enough to watch the next episode but like I felt like I was looking at different puzzle pieces that I couldn't figure out how they all fit because a major piece is missing. I hope they give more clarity in the second episode (you would know if that's the case Darkness, since you already watched it online)... If they don't, then hopefully you are understanding what's happening in it better than I am so you can explain it to me!

Yes they are taken over by another person/spirit. There's a secret society called The Qui Reverti who want to be immortal. The way they become immortal is by seeking refuge in the bodies of others. I'm not sure how they do this yet. I think on the host's birthday the "intruder" tries to take complete control pushing the host out. Some people commit suicide so the "intruder" can't take over. I would think that the "intruder" would die for good if the host commits suicide.

Some hosts are stronger than others such as Maddie(little girl) and constantly try to fight against them. Marcus is in the "intruder" in Maddie. The "intruders" have been alive for a really long time.

I think the FBI agent is one of them but he goes after rogue "intruders" who could expose them maybe? I'm still not completely sure of his role after watching the second episode. I know that he's after Maddie/Marcus.

I do know that the "intruders" get some type of book with the number 9 on the front which explains everything to them. As for the guy's wife I think she's completely taken over by her "intruder. For some reason they all seem to want to get to Washington DC. That's all I have right now. I know it's not much to go on.

I think I will understand it more once I watch more episodes. Hope that helps somewhat.

Okay then I was actually understanding more than I thought... I got that certain people were hosts to these intruder spirits who were trying to continue living though I'm not quite getting how they wind up becoming hosts or whether they are entirely aware they are possessed - and is it technically that they are possessed or is it that the intruder fully takes over?

And is in that a host commits suicide to also kill the intruder or are they being led to commit suicide so the intruder could shed that skin and move on or something? They seem to keep doing the same thing right - that girl in the beginning of the first episode and Maddie both drew a bath and Maddie was writing the same note the other girl did; the only thing that stopped Maddie was the cat (I had to cover my eyes when she drowned the cat by the way), and after that she seemed self aware again with the whole "what have I done?" line and then not getting into the bath herself.

The FBI guy is confusing because I can't determine whether he's looking to hunt down intruders or kill the people who know about them. I'm pretty sure he is one of them too based on what he said to that radio guy before he killed him.

The first episode was intriguing but I only wish they gave a little bit clearer of an understanding of what's going on. I don't want to be several episodes in and not have a real grip on what's happening.

Yes, you did understand more. The host becomes aware something is going on because they have dream about things that happened to the intruder and sometimes have waking memories as well. I'm not sure how the intruder completely takes over. Maybe the host gives up the fight such as seems to be the case with that ex policeman/author.

You're right it makes more sense that they are committing suicide so that the intruder can move on to someone else but who do they move on to when there's no one else around? Do those people come and remove the intruder to bring them to another host? Yes, the cat stopped Maddie and Marcus drowned the poor cat then Maddie came back wondering what she had done. I had a hard time watching the part with the cat too. Marcus is a very strong intruder. I don't know what the deal is with her saying: What goes around comes around. Maybe it's a threat meaning Marcus will be back again?

The other guy who does the radio show is in danger. The FBI killed one of them so changes are he will be killed too. How does the guy doing the radio show know about the intruders?

If I'm not mistaken, the one radio guy that met with the FBI guy who later killed him had said he and the other guy figured it out based on some frequency - I assume they caught on via their radio equipment that there's some frequency the intruders either communicate through or that they resonate in that the average person does not hear or see or what have you.

The former police officer/author (I think his name is Jack. right?) is a host too? I thought only his wife was taken over; I didn't get the impression he was too. Not with him being confused by her disappearance and how weird she was acting before that and when he looked through her phone and saw the odd texts and called the number and heard that same jazz music she was listening to when she snapped at him for walking in on her (which I assume wasn't her but rather her intruder). I haven't watched episode 2 yet, so maybe you're ahead on the info there, but at least in the first episode it didn't give the vibe he was one of them (though maybe the guy he knew from high school that showed up out of nowhere; I could believe it if he was one...).

Rethinking the suicide thing - would Marcus have to move on from Maddie already given she's just a young girl, you'd think he wouldn't feel the need to move on so soon and yet she was drawing the bath and starting to write the note and all that... I'm still not sure whether it's the intruder or the host who is responsible for that act.

Thank you for reminding me about the radio host finding out about frequencies that the intruders use to communicate. He knows the intruders are out there but he didn't know how to tell if someone was harboring an intruder. I guess even knowing their existence is too much to know. I wonder if there's a way to expose the intruders?

No Jack isn't a host, he doesn't understand what's going on. He just knows that his wife is not acting like herself and that she disappeared in DC. Her boss lies to Jack when he goes to ask if he has seen his wife. Yet later on Jack sees her boss come out of the room where she is supposedly staying. Someone thugs beat up Jack because he's snooping around too much but they are stopped from killing him because they say his wife doesn't want him killed. Later on his wife calls to say she's back home. I'm not sure if she's home or not.

I'm not sure what's going on with the suicide thing. Maybe it is the host doing it but why would they right the same thing on the note? Didn't Maddie write "I am not Marcus"? I'm not sure either because a young girl would be the perfect host for Marcus because she has such a long lifespan. I know that Maddie is 9 which has some significance because the number 9 is on that weird book she has.

Okay, well, after watching the second episode but still being somewhat confused by some things, I thought I'd look up the show on IMDB and see what other people are saying and whether there might be some answers to things on there. It's worth reading because the person does give some explanation as to why Shepherd (the FBI guy) kills the wife and son of the missing radio guy and that guy's radio friend, but then spares Maddie but continues to hunt her. Some other info in there too.. from what they say in the discussion the show will at least follow the book faithfully for the first 4 episodes.

According to that poster, Amy's boss will likely become more involved as the story unfolds. Apparently in the book Amy's boss has a connection with Marcus. There's also discussion related to the suicide thing and the #9 but it's later in the discussion so I'll post it here:

"Shepherd doesn't kill the little girl when he first meets her (both in the book and the tv show) because when he asks her the trigger question (and shows her the seashell in the show) she doesn't display any of Marcus' personality yet, which she should, and he pauses because he's not sure if the process has begun with her... The age when the Intruders are first awakened and made aware they are living in a new body is not always definite, but from the what Marcus said about "bringing me back too soon", it appears the host body must have developed somewhat in order for the take over to occur. In Amy's case, she's just had her 36th birthday and the change has been successful. And though the scene in the first episode with the girl who was visited and awakened by the two shepherds isn't in the book, it appears that 18yo might be too early, also, because something went wrong and she freaked out and killed herself. The only thing that's certain is when the takeover is initiated, it will be on a year that's divisible by "9"...18, 27, 36, etc. Nine is a magical number to the secret group, which the book briefly touches on, most of which I believe is stuff that can be found in Numerology and Occultism theories about the power of certain numbers."

Thank you for finding that information! It's very helpful. I will hold off on reading that post until I've read the read the book and seen more episodes. I will bookmark it though and will skim it. :)

I will definitely wait to read the book until all episodes have aired as the poster said that there are no supposed since they had read the book beforehand. I love reading books upon which tv show and movies are based! I will definitely refer to that post with any questions I have when watching the show.

Yeah, reading that initial post and the subsequent questions that poster had answered based on what the book stated and thus far the differences they've noticed was very helpful in understanding some of the things that weren't quite gelling yet. I think they felt that it was necessary to be vague going in to keep up the mystery but they have held back a little too much, so that person having read the book has actually helped a lot of confused viewers to understand what they aren't quite telling yet. I'm glad I stumbled upon it or else I think I'd still be very confused and I don't know how much longer I would've given the show to get around to explaining things before I gave up on it; now at least I'm a little more likely to hang in for a little longer...

I've seen episode 3... I'm still feeling like I'm missing something or they're just being too closely guarded with not wanting to reveal too much of the plot too fast that it's not keeping me engaged enough to follow. Like the whole exchange between Jack and Amy when she told him she wanted to separate from him - I kind of felt like they were holding back too much because they didn't want Jack clued in to what was really going on with Amy to the point that they almost don't want to clue viewers in either - I wanted to punch the glass door myself!

I just knew as soon as the woman driving with Madison pulled the card out of Madison's pocket that she was going to die. I could see it coming a mile away. As soon as she got out of the car at the rest stop and went to use the pay phone (by the by, are there still pay phones anywhere anymore? It's been a while since I've been at a rest stop so maybe there still are pay phones at them but I couldn't help but wonder if it would even work...) I knew Madison would show as she was on the phone and Marcus would come out and since we know from that little cheat sheet that Marcus was a killer, it came as no surprise he'd kill her. I just wonder where Madison/Marcus went to afterward...

So Marcus was not approved to move on to another body in his last incarnation by "the nine" (hence the 9 on the cards I take it) so he paid Shepherd off to allow him to still do so and in turn he was going to take things over when he returned... but he's returned too soon right? I mean, obviously, 9's a bit young to take over anything and probably was not when he was supposed to "wake up" but perhaps it happened too soon because his trigger was presented to him too soon? And now Shepherd has to figure out how to contain Marcus within Madison or kill them both... or whatever...? I assume Shepherd's looking for them for that reason.

So Gary's going to be the one to lead Jack into figuring out what's going on with Amy? Did I get that right? She called Jack her shepherd if I caught that right - was that in reference to Shepherd himself or that Jack helped bring Rose out inadvertently? If I was following correctly, Amy still loves Jack and doesn't want to leave him but Rose is taking over and so Amy's saying "we need to separate" because she's willingly giving control to Rose who has other plans for them going forward? I'm just not getting why the individuals who are dealing with these intruders within them aren't actively trying to fight them off for control of their own bodies - I can understand in some way how Marcus would be too strong for Maddie to take on, though she seems like a strong-willed child herself, but he hasn't fully taken over - at least not yet - while Amy seems weak and just easily gives herself up to allow Rose to have control. I don't get why that is. Surely if someone woke up after having a birthday and felt like there was someone or something else trying to control them and take over their bodies, they'd think they were crazy and check themselves into a hospital for a bit - so why would Amy just be like eh whatever rather than fight for her sanity and life?

I agree they are being slow to reveal what's going on with Amy and Jack but that's because they want it to be a slow burn. I like the mystery of it. For me finding out new pieces of the puzzle each week is what keeps me watching.

I knew that woman was going to die too once she took the 9 card out of Madison's pocket. Shepherd cleaned up Marcus' mess because he wants to keep the intruders hidden. There aren't as many payphones as there used to be. They are mainly in malls now. I don't have a cell phone so I make sure I know where to find a payphone.

Yes, I believe that Marcus returned too early. Maybe the trigger was the sand dollar? I know Marcus gave Shepherd a sand dollar after he paid them off. I know he said What Goes Around Comes Around. So when Shepherd saw Maddie with a sand dollar he knew Marcus had returned. Yes Shepherd wants to find a way to contain Madison. If they can put intruders in a host they should be able to take them out again.

Yes Gary is going to help Jack find out more about what's going on with Amy. I'm not sure why Amy called Jack her Shepherd and why it brought Rose out unless Shepherd was her trigger. Yes Amy still loves Jack but Rose is stronger than her. Maybe Amy saw some of Rose's memories and saw what type of person she is. Madison has seen Marcus' memories.
